I've got a friend that runs a Chiropractic office and her office was broken into last night. Apparently she has thought someone has been going in there every once in a while and taking a shower and eating whatever food was left there. So last night they couldn't get in how they usually do and tore a screen and got a window open and left it open. There was some blood and footprints on the desk this time. Apparently a local museum was also broken into that's about a block from her office.
He still didn't take anything, but he was in there again. And this time one of her cats that live there got out. It's not like they are going to track this guy down using DNA or something. My bet is that it's a bum that has figured out a way in there that we just haven't noticed.
What I'm asking is for simple relativity cheep ways to either thwart this guy or at least get a picture or recording of him. I'm thinking a cheep web cam is probably about the easiest thing to do but I've never set one up for remote viewing or recording or whatever we need to do. It's not like we want to sit up all night watching the cam on the internet.
Hopefully this will cause her landlord to get an alarm system or something put in, but I'm trying to find some solution for tonight so she is not freaking out.

Just about every webcam (Logitech comes to mind) comes with software that you lets you take pictures or stream video to the net. It's super easy to set up if you have a laptop, or the office has a computer you can use. You'll also need some webspace, but just about everyone has this through their ISP if no where else.
Drop by your local electronics store and grab a camera that meets your computer specs. If it's logitech you can use the software that comes with the thing. You can then record the whole thing remotely or at the source.(Although 12 hours of video will need some HD space) Review the next day, and hope to catch the guy.
