WRT54G wireless issues

I know there are a fair number of people on the boards here that use this router so hopefully someone can help. The issue is that my wireless connection is slow. If I hook up a wired connection I get my full i-net speed (about 2.5Mb) but wireless is a no go, it's about 1-1.5Mb slower. The router has dd-wrt v23 sp2 firmware installed (just upgraded from the non sp2 in my troubleshooting), with WPA+AES with PSK for security. Without the security enabled it shows the same results. It doesn't matter which channel I try (I've gone through about 6 of them) they all get similar performance. Location doesn't matter either, with the laptop wireless sitting next to the router it's still the same speed. I've had this router for a couple years now but have never tested the wireless speed till now, as I wasn't the one using it. Any suggestions?

I would recomend throwing it in the bin and perhaps setting fire to it for good measure. I had one of those and had to return it as it would refuse to synch with anything.

Would that slow down the signal for g devices? I've been having wireless problems too (on a netgear), and my tivo has a b usb receiver.
