Want to buy a 360, need suggestion

I've been debating if I should get a next gen console for a long while now, and the recent Halo 3 hype has finally convinced me to get a 360. The problem is I have no idea which package to get. I can get either the premium or the elite, can someone explain the cons and pros of both to me?

Also I don't plan on downloading a ton of stuff from xbox live, I only want to get a few of the classic old school games from live arcade.

The only 'advantage' the Elite has over the Premium is that is has a bigger memory capacity, about a 100GB more, the premium only has 20GB. But since you don't plan on downloading much, I would say 20GB is more than enough, it was more than enough for me.

The other thing is that the Elite has a HDMI output, but from what I've heard, you need a pretty good HD TV to fully experience the entire package.

Other than that, no other difference, well, it does come in black, so I guess it has street cred.

By 20gb they really mean 14gb. The system takes a quarter of it away from you.

If you plan on loading up alot of music you'd be better off with more. The price difference at that point isn't big. You might not plan on downloading much, but over time you'll accumulate alot of data. Patches, arcade... in 5 years there's going to be a fuckton.

I'll need to buy that 100gb hd eventually. Fucking elite got announced a week after I got my box.

Hmm, I don't have a HDTV, and I get all my video from gametrailer.com at work... Guess I'm going with the premium then.

Anybody know when will the new xbox360s with the falcon chips be in? I appreciate the 3 year warranty but I would rather my 360 not break and be left with no gaming for weeks.

You want the Premium. End of thread.

Yea the Elite version is mainly if you want to have the bigger HD and for it to look 'shiny'. (Oooo, black)

Could also try and get one of the Halo 3 360's.

The only package you need is the Replacement Warranty package.

Just want to make sure people know the new premiums have HDMI as well.

You can check the box in the store to find out if it's a new one for sure. Or, as I did, simply order from Amazon and they specify if you're getting an HDMI version. No HDMI cable is included, though.

I've been looking to do the same, and was leaning toward the Elite due to assertions of "new hardware that won't blow up" and the possibilty of using up that much hard drive space.

There doesn't seem to be a whole lot of truth to hardware differences, though.

Premium with HDMI has the latest DVD drive, an extra fan, and I'm sure a lot of other unmentioned changes. Get that one.

Yeah, I'm using one and very pleased with the noise level. It also stays very cool to the touch, even after hours of Bioshock.

How can I tell if the one I'm buying is the new one? I want to buy it from a store (there's a big J&R near me, and a big best buy not too far away) so I can actually look at the box to see if I'm getting a new or old one. I want to avoid buying it over the internet if at all possible.

On the contents side of the box it lists "HDMI Port".

I would be sure to buy it at Costco. That way if it dies after the three year new microsoft warranty (which doesn't cover everything from what I hear, mainly Red Ring of Death errors) you could still take it back, get your money back, and get it again.

I buy all my electronics at Costco.

    What's so good about Costco?

Interesting, considering the HDMI Premium only came out a month ago.

Just a heads-up: your plan will go awry.

Ah nevermind. But since I don't have a costco membership I will try to see if any of my friends are willing to let me use theirs. Failing that I will just pick one up at best buy.

Edit: I was looking at the Halo edition of the 360, seems like a dumb purchase to me. Once it breaks down and you mail it to microsoft, they would probably mail you a normal 360 back since I don't think they have a bunch of them lying around just so they can send back to customers.

And what the fuck are they thinking? Specialy halo 3 edition xbox without halo 3? It would have made so much more sense to make it $450 and throw in a copy of special edition halo 3 or something.

They'll remove the internal components and replace those. Inside they use standard bits. It's not like your processor is branded with the UNSC logo.

Makes sense. This bring the halo 3 xbox much closer to the premium since it comes with a wireless controller with the chargers and stuff, those stuff costs $40 easily. Can anybody confirm if the halo 3 edition 360 comes with the extra heat sink and stuff?
