Hey Gabe, this came up in an H&A thread, but no-one seems to be able to remember what on earth this: http://www.penny-arcade.com/comic/2000/09/05 comic was about.

I feel like I'm missing out on something,

Hmm, I think it's some kind of website error or something? I cracked open my first year penny arcade book, and the comic that is supposed to appear on September 5th between "Creating Demand By Sony" and Sega Net: It Doesnt Work (tm) is supposed to be titled RPS, a comic in which the quake demon and the quake dude square off doing rock paper scissors, only for the quake guy to produce a rocket on the last panel and the demon to exclaim "fuck you"

Not sure what the hell the credit card shit is about though, or why it's titled "Our Finest Work To Date"

Its been like that, with that exact image, for at least a couple of years now. The most plausible theory I've heard is that it was their first big advertiser on the site, but it still doesn't quite sit right.

Am I wrong in thinking that this is a hilarious nod to the old Lucille Ball skit, "Vita veta vegamin" which ends with Lucy drunk off the VVV, spilling it and sloshing?

From wikipedia, regarding red bull and the alleged bull bile
In its natural form, taurine is derived from animal tissue, having been first isolated from bull (Bos taurus) bile; however, the taurine used in the Red Bull drink is produced synthetically. It is also the first energy drink to list glucuronolactone in its ingredient list.

    take that

I always thought it was a joke about getting advertisements, that their "finest work to date" was a credit card ad. I always thought that was funny, too.

Could I have been wrong all this time?

Its possible. It just always seemed odd. When I started reading PA, I thought the guy in the as was Gabe or something.

seriously though does buckley just stay up all night waiting to see what each update's pa comic is and then furiously hammer out his take on the same joke

    because, uh

    I mean

    jesus shit

this is pretty much officially bordering on the old moviecomics days

or that one site that cribbed all the art but replaced everything with terrible jew jokes

A guy that works with me bought a case of this "Gamer fuel" for work. (We rotate out buying soda for the company and wanted to try something different). It was revolting. Halfway through the 12-pack we had christened it a new name.

    "Halo Piss"

    The strange thing was, when we finished up the case, we wanted more. I don't know if it was the caffene or the fact we called it "Halo Piss". I kind of wish there was more ;_;

I bought one bottle and was like 'this is kind of gross"

then i bought another for some reason and enjoyed it

The taste has grown on me. It's kind of like a cherry slurpee soda mixed with orange

Man, when Vanilla coke came out I saw it and was like "Hm, I'll try it", and I had some, and I thought it was bad, but I had already bought the bottle, and so I decided to finish it.

I pretty much was addicted to the fucking stuff after that.

This place cracks me up. CAD is always up before PA, and always on time. I find it funny when both strips do the same joke, because the update schedule always makes it look like PA is doing the same thing as CAD (which is absurd, of course).

The first sentence of panel 3 (in PA) makes the strip for me today. :D

As others have pointed out, CAD wasn't all that bad except for the 100% unnecessary final panel.

Buckley certainly knows how to kill a joke by having to explain it to us. Time and time again.

That and he's been pretty much slavish to the whole four panel thing

It's like he doesn't seem to realize that when your comic strip is on the internet, the actual size and format of the strip doesn't have to be consistant.

Also I've pretty given up trying to get people stop talking about CAD in the New Comic Thread.

It's like, fuck, I may as well take a stab a perpetual motion machine or the key to immortality or middle-eastern peace or some shit

I like buckley when he doesn't try and do video game comics, even if he's not doing it intentionally he ends up looking like an unoriginal no talent hack.

I actually like his comics when he's just doing them about his characters.

The comic that is just a little banner ad was about Efront. Back when we were apart of Efront things really sucked. They kept putting more and more ads all over the site. The joke was that eventually the comic would just be an ad. I know it doesn't make much sense now but at the time we thought it was very clever.

Tycho, you goof. As someone who has handled tubercular sputum on several occasions, I can assure you that it is typically pale yellow or green. If you diluted regular Dew, you'd probably have something close. Dark orangey-red? Never seen that.

And for the record, I like the soda.
