Regular is just fine for pretty much everything you're going to want to do with it with the exception of the hard drive and in package HDMI cable. It's what I would pick unless those last two things are going to be important to you.
I wasn't aware the Core was even considered a real Xbox! xD
Regular is fine for most. The Elite is only really needed for people that want to have the Extra HD space out of the box and the black color.
Bearing in mind that regular does have a hard-drive, just not as big of one.
I have the regular one... it got the Ring of Death after the warrenty expired (but before it was renewed) so I fixed it myself and, while I was doing that, I painted it with some plastic spray paint. Now it looks pretty badass.
Regardless, I'd go with regular, then use that money you saved on GH2 and Bioshock.
