Ok so I'm not looking for hints or spoilers or whatever, I'm just going to ask those of you who have played Blue Dragon to tell me this.
When does it get started? I'm waiting for the proverbial plane to take off. I'm in these ruins, in some hospital and I have no idea why I'm doing any of what I'm doing. In most RPGs I've played things usually take about an hour to "take off". Take Chrono Trigger for example. You start at the fair, shit goes down, you're back in time then (if the name didn't tip you off or reading the back of the box) you get it that the thing is about time travel and the plane is at its cruising altitude.
Blue Dragon has 3 discs and I want to play the game, I really do, its just killing me that other than the "because we're here we may as well walk around and open crates and hope something happens."
So please tell me things are going to make sense here soon. I need motivation! Sure i've got a blue dragon shadow and all but dude really, when does the whole purpose behind this game start up?
I guess I expected a little bit more, honestly it seemed like they glazed over it a bit and other than the large flying battle station and that guy being a dick I hadn't really heard any "Hey we need to stop him!" Granted...we'll need to stop him but I guess I expected something that rallied the troops and such.
The game starts pretty much right after you're done.
I hate to break this to you, but you shouldn't expect much from the story of Blue Dragon.
I just beat the game, and it's great. There's a lot to love, but the story was sooo baaad. And the boss music will give you reason to kill. Irl.
Your real motivation so far is
to stop Nene. And after you help this guy it just becomes more clear that that is your goal. But you'll be helping Maru for a while.
Also, you'll notice that you and your friends are the ultimate good, stopping to help citizens who have nothing to do with saving the world. Just because.
Oh, and there is not human corruption. Everything, everything evil and wrong with the world is Nene's fault. Everything.

This mission you're on now really turns out to be that rallying.
Maru is that little goat bastard right? Well the guy with the cat shadow? I've not met back up with him yet, I'd been running around for a while trying to figure out where I needed to go to progress...seems I needed to turn the lights on. Go figure.

Yeah, it was a bit rushed... it was basically your introduction to him. It gets expanded more through the game. Just don't expect a huge in depth story. It's not a BAD one.. just, nothing groundbreaking or detailed.
Yeah, I forgot you didn't learn his name yet. Yeah, small guy. That's him. The hospital had me confused for a bit too, but if you want a hint,
There's a hole in the wall of a room somewhere on the 2nd floor I believe, and that will take you all where you need to go. I can't help more, I don't remember. The lights have nothing to do with it. I had that exact same thought, and ran around the whole place trying to find and turn them all on/off

Really that's your big motivation, you learn more after the Hospital and bits more after that, but the main conflict has already been set up.
