OSX shutdown problem

I have been having a problem lately with OSX shutting down. It will close the desktop, and then just go to a blue screen with the little spinning thing at the bottom and just hang there. I first noticed it when I came home from work and noticed the Mac was on (from the previous night when I told it to shut down and then just walked away) and stuck on that screen. A hard power down is the only way to turn it off that I have found. It is a Intel system. OSX 10.4.10. I did at one point update to 10.4.11, but the system still shows 10.4.10 and tells me my software is up to date when I do a system update. I really dont remember if this all started around the time I did the .11 update or not. Anybody ever heard of this? If so, anyone know of a fix?

Is this from just your user account or any user account on it?

    10.4.11 hasn't been released yet...unless you're a developer.

Try repairing permissions/checking the disk with the install disk.
