Ok so my mom received a questionnaire to fill out for potential jury duty service. We live in Toronto, Ontario. Here's the website regarding Jurt Duty in Ontario.

Here's a page that explains the questions they asked her to answer.

For question 4, my mother put "No". The page is asking specifically if she has a good knowledge and command of the English language. My mother can understand English and speak it to a degree. Enough that I can tell her about my day and she will understand the jist of it but not enough to be able to sit down and watch an entire English movie and actually understand what it's about without me or my brother explaining it to her.

So, with that explained, I'm wondering if she qualifies as NOT having a good knowledge and command of the English language.

If it was your court case, would you feel confident that someone with that command of the english language on the jury?

In this case, just getting the jist of something could sentence a person to jail time. If she's not absolutely confident in her ability to speak and understand the language the answer is "no".

Think about how the judge, Crown attorney and defense attorney would feel about her being on the jury, given your explanation in this thread. Trust me, they'll agree that she shouldn't be there. No is the correct answer.
