I'm finally doing it. I'm embracing Nintendo. There are sooo many games for the entire family of Nintendo's consoles that I've always wanted, but I prioritized other things. These days, it's all available (or will be soon, at the rate they publish VC games) in a single sleek and stylish box.
This last week I've been reading up on the best GC games, and also the VC games. I can't take it anymore, I have to have this!!
So I'm buying a Wii with RE4. On top of that, a classic controller and a GC controller and a bevy of the top-tier GC games like maybe Metroid Prime (Corruption isn't out for another month in Europe), Rogue Squadron and Paper Mario. Then, when I get home I'm gonna start downloading VC games and I probably won't stop until I go to bed late tonight! Ghouls'n Ghosts, Super Mario World, Final Fight, Super Mario 64, Ocarina of Time, the original Ninja Gaiden, the list goes on and on. Everything from kiddy games that I'm finally old enough to not be embarrassed about being delighted by, to dark dark games like Eternal Darkness.
First time starting a topic on this frum, sorry I'm not sure if this is the right place for it, but I just had to share
Posts
However one game you shouldn't pass up on is Eternal Darkness, a horror game made by Silicon Knights if I'm not mistaken.
There's a good handful of really decent third-party games for the GC amidst the shovelware that you should check out.
And while you're embracing the console Nintendo, have a peek at the handhelds, excellent third-party GBA/DS games abound.
The spinoff Mario titles are worth trying, though. Not everyone likes the Party titles, but they're at least worth a shot.
The only reason I didn't include the spin offs is because I didn't want to knit-pick at the good and bad (spin offs), Mario Party 1-3 were pretty great, but after 4... and Mario Strikers was fun, but that baseball game everyone forgot about...
Does anyone remember the dreaded stick spinner? The diagram displays your palm placed on the stick then spun. Not only did it ruin your controller it completely tore the skin off your palm. Kids at school would walk around with their mark of Mario Party.

But the really indispensible ones: Metroid Prime 1 and 2, Eternal Motherfucking Darkness, Wind Waker (and the Ocarina of Time/Master Quest Bonus disk used on some Gamestop) PIKMIN2!!!!, SSMM, Mario Kart DD (for multiplayer fun - you'll need more GCN controllers).
All the others are awesome too. Including MGS TTS
The second one, not so much
Wii: 5024 6786 2934 2806 | Steam/XBL: Arcibi | FFXI: Arcibi / Bahamut
Loading up on solid GC games is a must. My son plays GC games more than he plays Wii games right now. He's really into Pikmin 2 and Wallace & Grommit Project Zoo.

MP8 maybe, but none of the GC ones. In fact, I freaking hated all the GC Mario Party games.

I was pleasantly surprised about the graphics for the old games. I have a projector and a 7 ft screen, and I was thinking the graphics for the old games would be blocky as hell. Sure, some aliasing and muddy textures on the N64 games, but not nearly as much as I'd feared. And the SNES games look great! A component cable and a projector that's really good at upscaling really helped there.
There is one thing, though: Do I really need a GC memory card??!! I seriously can't use the Wii's internal memory to store saved games? Or am I missing something? I mean, that would be beyond retarded!
(Also - you shouldn't mention the act of Emulation here)
2009 is a year of Updates - one every Monday. Hopefully. xx
Yeah, you still need a Gamecube memory card. And I'd definitely suggest playing Metroid Prime 1 before Prime 3, or possibly just skipping over it all together as it's just a frustrating experience if you don't have the nostalgia of the 2D Metroids, and you've already experienced the wonderful control and livelier setting of Prime 3.
Do grab Super Metroid, as it is one of the greatest 2D action-platformers ever.
WTF???
Metroid Prime is a fucking awesome game. Regardless of Super Metroid or MP3.
I'm playing it right now, it's pure joy.
Hadji, I wanted sooo bad to download Super Metroid, but I can't find it! The original Metroid is there, but I can't find Super Metroid. Maybe it hasn't been released in Europe yet? I didn't think that they differentiated between territories with the VC, but it seems like it?
Yeah, different territories do get things at different dates on virtual console. You'll probably get it around the release of Prime 3.
Pikmin 2 is my favourite GC game. Also, for something extremely quirky, try Chibi Robo. Totally awesome.

Personally I liked the original Pikmin better. Those caves just didn't do it for me in the 2nd one.
Rape your local GameStop, but go to a couple and compare prices; what's $25 in one is $5 in another, or even $5 in the same shop, but on a different shelf.
Because they're stupid.
After a marathon session one weekend, both my palms were bloody, and I told my boss it was stigmata.
They should ring up at the same (lower) price, but usually the GS monkeys haven't gotten around to re-tagging everything yet.
I also believe that the Creature Encyclopedia added a fascinating level of immersion, and the puzzles were better.
Also: no time limit.
While the first Pikmin is an excellent game in its own right, its sequel outdoes it in almost every way.
Chibi Robo does rock the house. The fact that I play a game to clean is bizarre. Why can't I just clean my own house? Because, everything is more fun as a 5" tall robot.

...Double Dragon 2 still isn't available.
The Castlevania games are excellent as are games like Mario Kart, Animal Crossing, and Advance Wars. The Legend of Zelda: Phantom Hourglass looks to be really good from reviews so far if you are a Zelda fan. Actually that reminds me, if you can you should buy the Zelda Collectors Edition disk for the GameCube.
Or if you have a Wii, just download Ocarina of Time from the VC and play it BEFORE you play Twilight PRincess.
And wait for the inevitable Majora's Mask transfer. And hopefully they'll eventually add Ocarina of Time: Master Quest.

-Most any Mario Sports title (barring Baseball, which isn't horrible but just not terribly good)
-Mario Sunshine (say what you will, it's still pretty enjoyable, and the "classic" portions are nifty)
-Mario Kart: DD (not as amazing as the original or 64, but solid)
-Wind Waker
-RE 4
-SSBM
If you're a fan of the genre:
-F Zero GX (amazing, but so incredibly hard)
-Metroid Prime 1 and 2 (universally praised, but a touch too esoteric to be mainstream IMHO)
-REMake and RE0 (if you have to choose, choose the former)
-Baten Kaitos and Tales of Symphonia (ditto, in my opinion)
-Star Wars Rogue Squadron 2 (Part 3 is a bit lame)
-Viewtiful Joe (sequel lacks the original's creativity)
-Pikmin 1 or 2 (both good for somewhat different reasons)
-Paper Mario (fun and funny, but not quite there gameplay-wise)
Interesting, but with limited appeal:
-Geist (get's better the further into it you go)
-Luigi's Mansion (fun for a few hours)
-Killer 7 (mindfuck)
Lykke til og god fornoeyelse!
Rebel Strike BAD.
Ground combat ruined the game entirely. Everyone else seemed to still love the AT ST parts, but I hated them just as much.
If you can, though, get the Wii version of RE4.
