Buying a new TV

Hey guys. I'm sure you get this question pretty often, but I'm in the market for a new Television and I just wanted to get some recommendations, comments, suggestions.

What I'm willing to spend: Around $900 at most I would say, not including shipping and handling, etc.

What I'm looking for: HDTV anywhere in the 37" - 49" range. I don't want something TOO big as I don't want to have to buy a new entertainment center for all my stuff. Supports 720p(1080p is optional, may be too expensive for me) and has S-video and Component ports for older systems.

I've heard some bad things about Plasma TVs burning out. So I'm leaning more towards LCD. What are the arguments on both sides?

I've been looking at this set here: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16824112174

It looks like a great bargain, but I'm just not sure.

Any advice you guys can give would be greatly appreciated.

First, if you want to play old systems on a fancy TV, go here:

    http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/showthread.php?t=558125

that will ruin your life by making you scared to death of upconversion lag.

For that money and size, DLP/LCOS sets are going to be the way to go, unless you don't do much besides gaming. If you are a gamer only, go cheap-ass LCD.

    Hi Black_Heart,
Yeah I vote for LCD also. What branding that you're now looking for?
Previously, I see Samsung as a good one. But nowadays, heard that LG is becoming better than Samsung.
or is there any other brand?

    How about Sony?

Modern plasmas don't have burn in issues, unless you leave a solid graphic there for like, a year or so...

Plasmas are a better image and kick out alot of heat.

I see, thanks for the advice. I'm not TOO concern about older video games though. Just like PS2/Xbox.

and yeah, my main concern with this TV is for gaming. I don't care too much what television and movies look like.

Whats the difference between DLP and LCOS? I'm hearing that DLP gets much better quality than just some LCD TV.

Brand doesn't really matter much to me. I just want a good set. If you know of certain brands which crap out or cause problems. I would be all ears.

I don't have any preference though.

Edit: Someone recommended this set to me http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16889234005

    What do you guys think?

Vizio is a fantastic brand on a budget. You won't get the same quality as a high end set, but damned if they aint good enough for most people.
