Dunno whats up. I have Rogers cable internet here in Canada. It shows on the modem where it says "pc activity" and the light is blinking non-stop. Even when the computer is off. Usually when its blinking it means that I'm using bandwidth.
But I'm not using anything. Anyone know whats up? Anything sinister might be going on? And no, I have no router attached whatsoever.
I'm guessing that the "pc activity" light is the equivalent of a NIC activity light, and then I'd tell you not to worry. Network-attached computers are constantly chattering between each other and other network devices. It's just simple stuff like broadcast packets, etc. If you don't want to see it when your computer is off, you'd need to either disable Wake on LAN in the BIOS or unplug the computer from power. All that aside, you should think about a router anyway, as that at least provides you some protection from the harmful Internet.
Bottom line, though, is that it's likely really more of a diagnostic light to show that your PC is properly connected to the modem.

"Damn you and your Daily Doubles, you brigand!"
I don't believe it - I'm on my THIRD PS3, and my FIRST XBOX360. What the heck?

Seconded. My cable modem has the PC/ACTIVITY light also except it's constantly on and hasn't been "using" bandwith at all.
Everything he said.
