Long story short, I have a robot model that I wish to fit with an mp3 player, and set of speakers. This robot, standing about a foot tall, has quite a bit of open space in it's shoulder region, where I wish to conceal the speakers. I'd estimate the available capacity to be something along the lines of 2"x2"x1". I'm looking for unpowered speakers (no batteries all the sound amplification comes from the player) and I'd even consider using headphones, if I could find a pair that had the volume level and sound quality to be heard from a couple of feet away. Can anyone aid in my search?
Exactly. You would never buy consumer electronics there, but if you need a m-f 9-25 pin adapter, where the hell else would you go?
I can almost guarantee they have 2" open face speakers at Radio Shack.
I mean...
You're on the internet right now.
Sure, they probably have 2" open face speakers there, but if you're interested in having speakers that work for more than two weeks, you probably shouldn't buy them.
Seriously, I hate Radio Shack. I was under the impression that everybody hated Radio Shack.
You seriously think there is some magical difference between Radio Shack branded stuff and the thousands of other companies who buy the same OEM crap made in Taiwan?
Radio Shack, before it disappeared completely in Canada, had long since stopped selling all but the most basic parts for home electronics. There were no enclosures, printed circuit boards, capacitors, resistors, wiring harnesses for batteries or much else. If it wasn't an a/v cable or batteries, they didn't carry it anymore. You were lucky if you could walk in and get a soldering iron and solder in the same store.

Here is it. Proof positive that Canadia is completely backwards. Their Radio Shacks don't sell the parts necessary to make ... wait for it... A Radio!!!!

Actually, that's just proof that Radio Shack is backwards. A guy I know used to manage a Radio Shack, and many of them have basically started phasing out the old electronics stuff and are now more of a consumer store. I realize that it must be hard to find enough people who want to buy resistors, but now they're competing against BestBuy, which has got to be just as bad. I think the US Radio Shacks still have cables and whatnot, but I wouldn't be too surprised if some of them are mostly cell phones and TVs and shitty toys. I the old Radio Shack, where you really could build radios and whatnot from all the bits they sold.
schmads on

That looks like exactly what I want. The description says it has leads, so could anyone give me a clue as to how hard it would be to connect a pair to a 1/8 jack so I could plug it into an mp3 player (and while I'm at it, what's the smallest, cheapest mp3 player people know of)? The ipod shuffle seems a likely candidate, but if there is anything else that size that has a screen, peachy.
iPod Shuffle is definitely not the cheapest. My wife and I got a pair of Insignia (Best Buy house brand) MP3 players for the gym. Screen, 2GB, something like $60-$70 each. This was about a month ago. So far, so good. Though I'm sure you can find cheaper via the intertubes.

A little too large for your needs.

At some home outfit stores I've seen these pillow speakers as well, those might work for you also (sorry no link).
The answer is never Radio Shack.
Radio Shack is where electronics go to die.
For me, it was when I realized that remote control cars could turn while going FORWARD. I think I was about 7, at the time.
That, and the fact that anything I've ever seen branded 'Radio Shack' has ceased to function.
The real question is, when was Radio Shack awesome?

I learn new things everyday. Well, carry on.
Radio Shack is only the name on the bag...
