Need Help Finding Office Gestapo

Long story short, I have been really sick for about a week, I took 3 days off to recover and get some medicine from my doctor. I came back on Thursday because I have projects that need to get done. I sit far enough away from anyone that they would have to come to my cube and makeout with me to get sick. I worked Thursday and I had a pretty light cough (getting over bronchitis). I come in today (Friday) and see a note on my desk

"Please control your coughing. Get some Medication. You sounds(sic) sick and we don't all want to get sick too. Maybe you should go home"

Here is where I need help, there is no name on the document, BUT, there is a very distinct header and footer on the document that I have never seen before. The header is "Titled 1" and the Footer is "Ended 1".

Does anyone know of a program that leaves this header/footer combination?
If we can find out the program, my boss can run a machine audit to find out who has it installed.

(This is not a thread for blasting me about going to work sick, I hate doing it, and I usually don't but deadlines don't ask me if I am sick or not)

Man, that is terrible. Whoever did that needs to be slapped in the face.

As to resolving it - is there any way to check printer queues? If there is a printer everyone uses maybe you can find out who printed shit and the document names or something.

Question: Why do you need to know? Deadlines don't ask you who doesn't like you being at the office with unfair bias either.

[EDIT] I just think that ignoring it and moving on would be the best option. CHalk it up to an annoyance and avoid a potentially harmful confrontation.

We think it was from a printer near us, and have tried to look at the documents in history but with no luck. My only real clue is the header/footer thing.

I am just surprised someone would be so gutless as to leave a note like that without their name on it.

My boss wants to know because he said that this same person was harassing other employees in the past with similar letters. (Not regarding health) I.E. someone once told a female co worker that she shouldn't dress like that because she was divorced and divorced people should dress in pants and not skirts.

We share an office space with a sister company, so we are trying to figure out who keeps harassing various people on our staff. The young lady who was previously harassed always threw the letters away so there was never a way to track this person.

Granted. You _could_ just ask around discretely. Someone will either own up to it or turn the guy in, probably anyway, I'd think.

Though, I must reiterate, I would be a personal fan of a non-confrontational method of dealing with this particular situation. Possibly a note in reply, with YOUR name on it, of course.

[BIG EDIT] Saw your post, new information leads to the discovery and aprehension of this rapscallion. disregard mine... but still, maybe ask around discretely. Someone will probably know who it is.

It would probably be easiest to have someone with administrative access to all of the PCs do a search for the text from the header and the footer on all of the PCs in that area. If the person writing them is really dense, they may even still have the original copies of all of the letters on their PC, but you should still find the text somewhere if they're using e.g. Word with custom settings.

Post it publicly with "the author of this document needs to speak with <name of supervisor> about policy violations.".

You'll never hear from them again.

It definitely is passive-aggressive behavior and your boss is right to deal with it.
