Star Fox Command?

That's it, right there.

I don't have this game, and I'm wondering if I'd like to. Do the strategy elements interfere too much with the good ol' Star Fox gameplay that mom used to make? Are the touch screen controls nice? Will Slippy and I ever be together?

What do you guys think of this little nugget and whether or not it's worth the $16 I could get it for?

The story is screwed up, but good.
Basically expect every villain you thought was dead to somehow still be alive.

But there's more Star Wolf, which is bonus.

The biggest downside is none of it is on rails. Every level is like the ID4 mission from SF64. It's still fun, but a little variation would've been nice.

The stylus control works just fine. Takes getting used to, but it works. The toughest part is the strategy map. Make one wrong move and let the enemies get to the Great Fox, and the battle's basically over.

This is actually one of my most-played DS games.

The stylus controles largely work like a charm. There will absolutely be times where they're not quite as responsive as you want them to be, and you'll occasionally boost when you don't want to or not be able to stop boosting after you've started, but they're pretty good on the whole. Doing a "z" motion on the screen to barrell roll works surprisingly well.

The strategy elements are pretty dumb, particularly the "clear away the fog" nonsense. That said, it's not really obtrusive. You'll probably have to start a few missions over because you didn't notice an enemy behind a cloud and all of the sudden they're on top of the Great Fox. On the plus side, you can use missles to destroy enemies without actually entering those stages, and the missles are plentiful.

On the note of missles, you'll have to do way too many of those stupid "catch the missle!" segments.

I didn't pay much attention to the storyline given how much I despise Krystal, but it was fun seeing Slippy get a girlfriend.

Overall, the game is tons of fun. The open stages are easy to navigate and fun to fly around. Nothing in the game is particularly hard except some of the 1 on 1 dogfights in which the computer does nothing except run away from you the whole time; I kept running out of time on a couple of them because I could not find the damn computer.

I think a sequel could easily fix all of the problems with this game, but it's great as it is. I wouldn't hesitate to pick it up for under $20.

I still think Slippy is BI or something. Those frog people are weird. And yes. This is a great title. I like the strategy part and only having so much fuel. It makes that seem so much more realistic. However in multiplayer, I would say the lock on targeting and item drops ruins the multiplayer battles. Takes too much of the skill out and makes it a bit more random :/

Well, not entirely true, but there's only one exception.
Battle against Andross has you do a short on-the-rails dodge segment N64 style.

Surprisingly, it was the branching storyline that had me replaying this one a number of times; my favourite was when I ignored the threat and buggered off to do my own thing as Falco.

$16? Damn, I wish I were that lucky. I'd love to give it a try, and I'd pay that to own it.

At $16, that game would be in hands in a heartbeat, considering I bought it new at release. Multiple paths/endings and multiplayer provides surprising amount of replay. This is the first Starfox game I've played since the 64, and if you're cool with the lack of rails, this is pure awesome.

Incidently, I do wish Nintendo would release Star Fox 2 on the Virtual Console. The game was essentially complete, I can't see any good reason not to...

Also, Paco: Nice avatar, Flavio rocks.
