Commandos are far easier to counter than people realise.
They are easy to counter, but only cost 25 manpower to reinforce, which means you are likely to lose the manpower war of attrition unless you are significantly better than your opponent.

I was playing earlier this morning. I was Wermarcht against the British. I stole no less than four trenches from him. It took him forever to root out lvl 2 then 3 vetted infantry with mortars and his arty. It was glorious.

A neat little "mod" is featured in this thread at Relic News. It is simply a series of files that replaces the Axis sides "Genglish" with the localised voice acting from the German version of CoH. It is excellent if you are sick of the silliness of the volks' speech and such. A good bonus for immersion. This also works in ranked games online, as it is merely a sound mod. I really like it.

Because I just got a new PC the other day, I bought CoH + OF. The game is incredible. However, I'm completely fucking rubbish at it. I'm like a chicken with its head cut off.

I'm usually pretty competent in games like Dawn of War and StarCraft, but in this, I'm just bad. I think my main problem is my micromanagement is really poor. I have no idea what I'm doing most of the time, and I can't seem to plan ahead, like I would with other games. Maybe I just have to play it more and learn all the little nuances.

The Campaign is a good introduction, but I think it may lead to some bad habits. I've yet to play online, but half the time in the campaign I wouldn't worry about retreating almost decimated squads since there were usually ample supplies to recruit new units (I didn't really take experience into account :|).

I think the best place to learn strategies and to work on micro is online, maybe against someone from here so they can give tips while you're playing. Another good resource for strategies is to watch replays of good players and learn from those.

EDIT: There's not an excess of maps in any category either, so learning the nuances of individual maps can help a ton too.

Yeah, I will definitely be playing a lot of multiplayer online tomorrow. I haven't had much time today, so I've just gone through a campaign mission and a skirmish match. Skirmish is obviously a way different animal than the campaign, and closer to what I will play online.

Scout car spam (3-4) in the early game to push your opponent off the fuel, followed by a fast-tech to the PzIV-IS. You win.
They are easy to counter, but only cost 25 manpower to reinforce, which means you are likely to lose the manpower war of attrition unless you are significantly better than your opponent.

Which always happens. I like how I get >1:1 kill ratios against those limey bastards with my vet2 grens but end up losing anyways because of their stupidly small reinforce costs.

WHY THE FUCK DO YOU GET NEW COMMANDOS CHEAPER THAN RIFLEMEN

Unless something changed, riflemen cost 22 req to reinforce, so not cheaper, but quite close. But for an elite squad costing 560 req (if glidered in) or 510 req (if produced) against a 270 req basic infantry squad, it is quite amazing.

Riflemen reinforce costs got nerfed to a hideous 27 MP/ea. in 2.00 because of whiny Wehr players who can't use their MG42s properly.

This is annoying because individually Volks are far stronger than Rifles while being only 1MP more expensive.

I just had the best game ever! I experimented by letting the British player build some trenches around two VPs and then burning him out with pioneers. It worked. I retook them with grenadiers equiped with panzershreks and he couldn't shift them for the entire game. I killed so many Churchill IVs as he vainly hoped he would hold out until he could get a crococodile to counter his own mistake. It was not be.

I'm guessing he didn't know that the best way early-game for Brits to remove Axis from their trenches is the simple Rifle Grenades upgrade for their Infantry Section squads.

But yeah, it's funny, because the army that finds it hardest to counter trenches is also the only army which can create them. Result? People stop building trenches.

Best way to stop Axis getting in there in the first place is to delete your own trenches if you're gonna lose them. You have to have a squad or something inside the trench (can't delete it if it's empty or the enemy has it already) and then hit delete, and your squad will pop out and the Trench will be no more.

    I'm confused.

I rented the Gold Pack from a videostore to try it out and inside it had some instructions to installing OF first than add CoH to an account you make. Fair enough, I did all that and I can log in and so on but 2 questions:

Is it possible to not log in and play? When I start CoH after the intro movies it goes straight to the log in and if you don't log in it seems you have to quit the game.. ? Also, does this include CoH as I didn't install that as the instructions didn't say so so when I start CoH it has the OF loading splash screen and in SP I don't know what to look out for to know if it has the original campaign.

Stupid, silly, obvious questions but meh.

its like steam. you dont need the disc in the drive to play online, but offline you need to cd in there. when you arent connected to the internet it asks for your cd to be in the drive instead.

unless you have it on steam itself, in which case when a new patch comes out YOU CANT PLAY THE GAME PERIOD FOR UP TO A WEEK UNTIL THE STEAM SERVERS RELEASE THE PATCH

For vanilla Company of Heroes you didn't need the DVD in the drive, even offline. They changed that with the release of Opposing Fronts. The Gold Pack probably doesn't allow you to just install vanilla Company of Heroes by itself. I don't know.

I'm ABSURDLY glad that I've got the Steam version.
Otherwise I wouldn't have the game at all. It was never released here in Brazil. So, My love for Steam only grows with each passing day.

Terror's propaganda war is a superb counter to the "Glider in the base" Brit move. It is astonishing at blunting a heavy offensive and that precious small delay can help you immensely for when they return.
