Haha!! Yes.... let's be homosexual with each other for once! I was wondering if you guys have a favorite shampoo and/or beauty products! Just curious, because I want to try some out to see if it's any good.
The most recent issue of Esquire pointed me towards the Every Man Jack line of soaps and washes. It's a Target brand, so it's not super-expensive and apparently it has a really nice, subdued, masculine scent. I can't stand Axe or any of that stuff because it all smells like the inside of a candy store.
I also use American Crew shampoo, conditioner and pomade and it is excellent (and expensive compared to generic crap shampoos). But honestly, it's your hair we're talking about, that stuff's worth spending some extra cash on.
Change your shampoo and conditioner brands every time you buy a new one. Well yea, you can go back to favorites, but changing the goop will prevent your hair from getting used to it. And it will, beleive me.
As for other shit, I just let my girlfriend tell me what she prefers the smell of. This means I'm an Axe man.

Man that stuff smells like the syrup they put in soda fountains. If I want to have a certain scent, I usually go with a small amount of real cologne. Polo Black is good.
Also, I got a box of those Every Man Jack soap bars. They smell really nice and subdued, I went with the "tea tree" scent.

I rather enjoy the ones I use. I know that some of them are putrid, but I guess there are some that are fine.

I use VO5 because it's inexpensive and my hair seems to like it. No conditioner, no styling gel or mousse.
Ivory soap, because it lathers up nice, doesn't have a pungent smell like some brands which shall remain nameless, and because I wear my intense hatred of the "antibacterial" marketing scam out on my sleeve.
And I have a few colognes to choose from for different occasions. These not only smell *real* nice and have netted me a lot of compliments, they're really not that costly in the long haul compared with the frat-boy spray crap like Axe, because a little bit goes a long (as in, don't splash it on) way.
With the nicer colognes, I have accompanying body wash and scented shampoo to avoid conflicting scents, but usually it's not an issue.
I use Paul Mitchell Tea Tree for my flaking skin/dandruff.
This guy knows where it's at!
I'm not a guy, so I don't know if my opinion really counts for what guys want, but I always use Paul Mitchell. Shampoo Three is the only shampoo I've used so far that really effectively cleans my hair. It feels like a lot of the more widely-used brands (like Pantene Pro-V, etc) are really wimpy at actually cleaning the grease and grime out of your hair. My hair always feels squeaky-clean after using Shampoo Three. I used to use The Conditioner after shampooing, but my hair has gotten used to Shampoo Three and now I don't need to condition to get rid of tangles.
Doc, i'm sure i've seen a picture of you, the big guy right?
I thought you didn't have any hair?
Maybe for his hair down there.
I use Herbal Essence refreshing blue or something version. It makes my hair feel nice but after two weeks I get a dry spot at the forehead hair line and have to use head&shoulders for a week.
Like IreneDAdler, I am also not a guy, but I have a boyish haircut right now. I have very thick, curly hair and my scalp tends to be dry, so I've been using Fructis shampoo and 3-minute mask (easy conditioner: put in, leave for 3 minutes while washing rest of body, rinse out). They smell delicous, not perfumey, and I don't have to worry about smelling like a department store counter. I don't like using harsh shampoos because they dry my scalp out and trick me into thinking I have dandruff. If my hair starts feeling like it's gunky, it's time for a cheap clarifying shampoo; the Suave kind is fine, but not for everyday use (too harsh).
Axe smells like an oversexed 14-year-old. Boyfriend-creature uses the citrus-scent Head and Shoulders and I like it fine.
The best shampoo in the world is American Crew. They also make the best conditioner.
edit: having said that, it's very expensive.
YES!
I was just going to say this. My hairdresser actually used the conditioner on me a few times, and my hair has never felt so amazing. She stopped using it, and I asked her what it was, because it was amazing. Turned out it was a guy's conditioner (I'm a girl!) but I went out and bought some anyway.
It is really expensive, too...but I decided I would splurge a little bit. Citrus Mint. Hell yes.
P.S. Do not use Suave, like, ever, totally (for serious). In my experience, and almost everybody else I've spoken to, it really dries your hair out.
I'm bald, bearded, and covered in hair. i use whatever bar soap they have in the 20+ megapacks they got at costco. no shampoo or conditioner here. and my beard, or whatever hair is soft as a gentle lamb. rawr.
So i have about medium length hair, and it really looks best if it hasnt been washed for a day. It sits close to my head and doesnt get all whispy and such.
I assume this is becuase when I wash it it gets all dried out.
Is there something I should look for in a shampoo / conditioner that will keep the hair moisturized despite washing everyday?

I'm with you. I was quite pleased to discover this stuff, and it's amazingly cheap. I usually find it for 99¢ a bottle, and I've always been happy with the variety they have and the scents are great too.

I as a female love using Brilliant Brunette by John Freida. It smells soo good-- kind of like chocolate. (Don't worry I had a boyfriend who used this once)
After a few days of use, I can say that Every Man Jack bar soap is great.
I use their body wash (Ceder), face wash (Signature), and face lotion (scent-free) and love them all. Plus, it's pretty hard to beat for $5. I wish they would come out with Shampoo/Conditioner lines....

Personally I use whatever soap for my body.
Nivea for men for a facewash
A Nivea exfolliant (crucial for a decent shave but only do it when you are shaving afterwards)
The American Crew shampoo and conditioner combo one which is good for hair loss (at only 24, sigh)
And L'Oreal for Men hydrating lotion (the one that mathew fox advertises) I just switched and prefer it.
But for shampooing your hair buy a cheap bottle of 99cents stuff. Save this until you go to the beach and use it to wash your hair afterwards, then use proper stuff, I find that with the salt it's that hard to lather your hair properly it's cheaper just to waste a third of a bottle of cheap stuff then shift up to expensive stuff.
Also you should be shampooing once every two days. And remember the repeat part of lather rinse and repeat. You should be doing it at least twice or until you have a nice lather going on.
Head & Shoulders (bad dandruff) for the hair. Generic white Ivory (sometimes the green aloe vera, seems to help during dry winter months) for the skin.
If I cared more about the way my hair looks, I might take better care of it. I've grown to hate my hair no matter what I try to do with it (every damn haircut I get grows out the same boring way after two weeks) so it just gets whatever causes me the least amount of fuss then throw on a baseball cap after it's dry.

If you have bad dandruff you should probably look at getting a medicated shampoo that will actually clear up the problem, Nizoral or T-Gel etc, rather than something that just clears away the dandruff (H&S).
Personally I use RedKen. If you're in the UK and looking for a place to buy these things then www.lookfantastic.com is a good place to buy a lot of the shampoos.

It depends whether he has actual fungal dandruff or, like most people, just a really dry scalp. Fungal dandruff gives you greasy, grayish flakes, while dry scalp is the cause of the whitish "snow" effect most people call dandruff. If it's the latter, medicated shampoo won't do anything, and it'd be better to use a more moisturizing shampoo and conditioner and make sure to rinse the hair really, really well.

I work there and a lot of that junk just went on clearance so may want to check it out before its all gone
Have you tried it and think it's not good, or are you using "junk" as more of a synonym for "stuff?"
I rather enjoy the ones I use. I know that some of them are putrid, but I guess there are some that are fine.
I switch soaps everytime I run out for variety, I got some Olay body wash stuff this time around and it smells pretty nice without being overpowering.
But I'm a filthy hipster/metro, so be prepared to shell out appropriately.
Shampoo...I don't really care as long as it's a "volume adding" one.
As far as cologne goes, get Victoria's Secret "Very Sexy for Him". Trust me, girls go ape shit over the stuff.
a synonym for stuff, i haven't tried but was curious about it. I use the suave for men line, its pretty cheap and smells pretty good.

Right now it's Tigi (Bedhead) Very Berry Body Wash. MMMM.
My boyfriend uses Tigi Clean Guy's body wash. I love that shit. It smells like delicious man.
I've grown it back, but I'm still using clippers on my head. I'm mostly talking about soaps so far, though.
Axe smells like an oversexed 14-year-old. Boyfriend-creature uses the citrus-scent Head and Shoulders and I like it fine.

Don't know if I've used American Crew shampoo, but their pommade stuff is good.
Aaaaah.
I normally use whatever I see on the shelves that says "shampoo & shower gel". Easier than using separate products for my body and my head hair.
maybe it's the pizza sauce

Satans..... hints.....
we also talk about other random shit and clown upon each other
These are the two hair products I use specifically.

I dunno about that,
I have really oily hair. So the Suave "clarifying" shampoo is great for me. Strips out the oil nicely, plus it's dirt cheap.
I do like American Crew for styling products though!
