Wow, that video in the opening post is nice, too bad it's just CGI and not hand-drawn animation. I'm a bit disappointed in that.
As far as the game goes, I had Tactics Advance and absolutely hated it, so unless someone can give me good enough reason to consider this guy here I'll be passing it up.
You'll get responses like the following, but I figure I'd ask.
FFT and FFTA have some similarities, but storywise and mechanic wise, there are some differences. The biggest difference you would notice between the two is that FFT has no law system and quests simply have your characters being gone for a set number of days, rather than you hunting something down.
If you haven't tried the PS1 version of FFT, see if you can't give that a shot first to try it out.
Most importantly, FFTA removed the most critical strategic element of FFT, namely the action delay (or whatever it was originally called). In FFTA everything you do is immediate. In FFT, most things you do later on has a delay, so you will have to think and plan ahead.
FFT is a much more deeper game than FFTA.

Heard the proposition that RIAA and MPAA should join forces and form "Music And Film Industry Association"?
Wrong outfit. Just because he doesn't wear it the entire game doesn't mean it doesn't have twice the ass-gripping as that poser's loserly pants.

So five days away from this gem.
The comments on slowdown bother me a little bit, but as was mentioned earlier in the thread, Jeanne d'Arc had sometimes 2-3 seconds out outright pause before one of the transformation moves happened, and it in no way detracted from the experience for me.
Hell, it's not like someone is going to kill you while you are lagging. Yay turn based!

Let's play Mario Kart or something...
I played the bejeesus out of this a couple years ago when I somehow magically found a used copy at EB.
Point being, I don't really remember translation issues. Can someone give me an example?
p.s. I third (fourth) the white mage sentiment.

PSP sized wallpapers!
And of course, one with the white mage as the focus.

How about, "Tactics Advance was a watered down suckfest compared to Final Fantasy Tactics?"

How about, "Tactics was a muddled messy suckfest compared to Final Fantasy Tactics Advance?"
Seriously.
I was so disappointed in Tactics over its far superior sequel.
I dunno, I played both and while I think FFT was a better game in comparison, I still enjoyed FFTA.
Agreed to an extent.
It was still a good game, it just was in no way comparable to FFT. They took a great deal of the flexibility away via races, took some of the fun away via judges, and they completely nerfed the level of storytelling.
Doesn't make it a bad game, just doesn't put it in the same category as FFT.

I liked FFTA much better then FFT. I hated the stiry in FFT and was lost by the third mission and din't care by the fourth. Didn't care about the story in FFTA either, to be honest but I played the hell out of that game. I loved getting random weapons to get skills to get classes. The more random for me the better, I think.

I enjoyed FFTA, but it would've been much better with a stronger story backing it up.
There was a good story there, but they didn't do much with it.
The thing I didn't like about FFTA was the judges. I could deal with 1 law. 2 was passable and avoidable if I moved around and got two that I don't care about. 3 is just outright. It wasn't about tactics anymore, it was "let's toss in laws so they can't rely on a single tactic all the time, and if they skill their characters wrong, they will be screwed".
Otherwise, I enjoyed the races/jobs/story (up to a point - I couldn't deal with 3 laws, I spent too much time trying to figure out a way around them or setting up my chars to be skilled in EVERYTHING so I could have a decent team no matter what the laws were).
Never played FFT though, but this looks good. Unfortunately I own not a PS1 or PSP.

Yeah, I wasn't a fan of the laws either. The other thing I hated was the damn UI, it was a like a game unto itself. A game I never won.
I won the FFTA using mainly 1 skill - Air Render. And gunners were fucking dissapointing in terms of damage. That said, the game did consume much of my time back then, but probably because there weren't many games then that had my interest.

I don't think I've ever played a SRPG with a UI that wasn't a barrier. Maybe the DS's extra screen will fare better for FFTA2?
I also agree that FFTA had a serious theme (escapism and the line between fantasy and reality, a la Monsters and Mazes) but pretty much dropped the ball.
I too enjoy the White Mage, but why isn't anyone talking about the Geomancer with no pants on!?
The one advantage that I give FFTA is how you earn AP -- through winning battles/completing jobs instead of by repeating actions ad nauseum. In FFTA you had incentive to whip through battles as fast as possible while grinding for AP, but in FFT it was typically in your best interests to draw out fights a bit and Accumulate or Throw Stones at each other for about 20 turns.
I don't think FFTA is the abomination most others do in terms of gameplay, but I still vastly prefer FFT.

I won the game with a desperate last first level Thunder spell from my Red Mage (last remaining unit before game over)

Also, I was hoping this was a FF3-for-DS type remake, not just a Chrono-Trigger-for-PSX type port. Sadface. Pass.
But FFTA also has Marche, a kid with ridiculously tight pants.
I totally draw the line at Delita.. He would just stab you in the back afterwards.
I never asked for this!
Well it's understandable since he'd just be returning the favor.
That was an great setup, unintended or not :^:
I don't even really remember Marche's outfit, but I'm pretty sure he's not beating Ramza in that department.
Yeah... No.

Yeah, I agree completely.

Maybe FFTA2 will fix the huge, glaring problems with the first one... but FFTA was fucking weak and watered down in almost every single way.

The guy in the cloak has the amazing ability to flatten his own face.
Also, I hope "smelling" is not a skill that is needed in the game.

I assume people were commenting on the flare of her hips.

TG Cid doesn't need to smell. It would just slow down his ability to kill everything in his path.
It varies I'm sure but that seems to be pretty do able when scanning it now.

Marche was a total asshole.
Everyone: "Wow, this new world is great! We're all so happy!"
Marche:"Meh, I don't think so."
Everyone:
BOOM
