Have any idea what this is?

I came into possession of this coin, probably about 10 years ago. I have no idea what it is, i just thought it was cool, so I kept it.

First off, I know we have a wide range of people on this forum so I want to knows if anyone here know anything about it.

Secondly, I don't exactly know any Coin Collectors or anything about the hobby for that matter, so If anyone could direct me to a website of somekind that would be at least somewhat reputable I would appreciate it.

Around the outside of the coin is what I believe to be German.

"EINICKEIT UND RECHT UND FREIHEIT "

An online translator says something about Freedom and Right, but wont translate the E word.

I am willing to take/post more pics if anyone thinks it will help them.

Point is I was content to let it sit in my lockbox for years but, I am in need of $ now to support my crack habit :P Actually I need $ so my GF and I can pay the security deposit for the house we just got approved to rent.

Thanks for any response.

After a quick google image search, it looks like you're the proud owner of a five Deutsche Mark coin that's had the part around the eagle cut out.

You can see a picture of one here and below the picture is a link to a picture of the other side of the coin.

Wow, quick search thanks. I was hoping it was WW2 Era, but wikipedia says they were not first issued until 1948 under Allied occupation.

It seems like someone really did some fine work cutting out the eagle, but I have no idea if that would make it more or less valuable. Oh well, I'm guessing it's probably not worth much more than $10-$20 bucks.

Thanks for the quick online version of Antiques Roadshow.

That's awesome, but it probably also made it worth about as much as some stage-jewelry. Would make a cool pendant, though.

Yeah I doubt it would be worth much now but if you made it into a pendant that would be pretty cool.

Or if you mailed it to me and let me make it into a pendant... :P

It looks as though I was not the first to have this idea - the hole is already put in there at the top. It probably was a pendant long ago.

Personally I don't wear a lot of jewelry, but yeah I assumed it was worn at some point.

That E word is probably Einigkeit, which means Unity. Just my two cents.

    Or rather, my five marks.

Well, it's the first part of the revised German national anthem (after they de-nazified it).

Directly translated, it means "Unity and right and freedom".
