VGA vs. SVGA cables?
AbsoluteZeroThe new film by Quentin KoopantinoRegistered Userregular
I'm looking to buy a VGA cable to connect my computer to my new HDTV. Is there any difference between a VGA cable and an SVGA cable? Which one should I get?
There is no difference. Get the cheapest one or better yet, get a free one from some junk monitor laying around. You must know somebody with a computer they don't use anymore.
VGA and SVGA stand for Video Graphics Array and Super Video Graphics Array. They can refer either to the resolution (640x480 and 800x600+ respectively) or they can refer to the 15-pin analog video connector (aka D-sub). When referring to the video connector, there is no difference between VGA and SVGA, the terms are used interchangeably. There is also another video connector called S-Video. Any chance you meant that one instead of SVGA?
Yeah, there's really no such thing as an "SVGA cable." There's VGA, DVI, and S-video. Some VGA cables are better than others, as you don't technically have to wire all 15 pins to get a video signal through and this can cause subtle problems, but for the most part it doesn't matter.
I've had nothing but good experiences with them and they ship fast. I mean, scary fast - I usually have my order a couple of days after placing it. And they're cheap.
They'll definitely have whatever flavor of VGA cable (so long as it is, in fact a cable you need and not some exotic signal converter) you need to go between your computer and new TV.

That's exactly where I'm looking. They have "VGA Cables" and "SVGA Cables"
Way to ignore the whole thread of replies. There is no difference.
I meant the cables specifically on monoprice.com... if there is no difference between them, why do they bother to designate some of them SVGA and others simply VGA?
