Wikipedia says:
Naruto: Rise of a Ninja is an Xbox 360-exclusive video game currently under development by Ubisoft Montreal, making it the first Naruto game to be developed by a non-Japanese company. The game will be specifically based off the English dubbed version of the anime, and is set to be released in North America in October 2007. The option to use the original Japanese voice actors will be included in the game.
The game itself is an RPG, where Konoha will serve as a main hub to access various missions players can go on. The main storyline will take place from the beginning of the series to the end of the Invasion of Konoha arc, with included sidequests. It will feature elements from the Prince of Persia series, like jumping acrobatically from rooftop to rooftop, as well as having one-on-one brawls much like the Naruto: Clash of Ninja series. Like with most Naruto games, it will feature cel-shaded graphics.

Why should I care? Normally all anime games suck!
Normally I would agree, but this game is looking to buck that trend. Previews have been incredibly positive, and OXM already has reviewed the game, giving it a 8.0. Here are a couple of previews:
MSBox-World.com PreviewTeam Xbox PreviewGT PreviewHow's the fighting looking?
The fighting engine is looking excellent, and its what I'm most excited about. Just looking at the videos, and one can tell that the developers have taken inspirations from the Clash of the Ninja series, which many fighting fans hold pretty highly. They're definately throwing their own ideas though, with the handseal jutsus and mini games in mid battles. Also the ranked Online tournament mode is the sort of thing that can give this game legs.

Wait! Will there be a Japanese voice track?
Doesn't look like it. According to the OXM review, Ubisoft is considering adding it as DLC. Believe it!
UPDATE: Looks like there will be a patch the day it comes out. The press release is in french, but here it is.

This game looks absolutely fantastic. The story is the first 80 episodes or something. It's an adventure/platformer with a fully realized fighting game to boot. There's a Vs. mode included for fun times with friends.
The entire village of Konoha has been built with great care. Ubisoft brought in the creator of the series to help shape the village apparently.
This is the only game I am buying this month (other than Halo 3).
I hope to God this is true. Lack of japanese voice overs will mar the experience for me... the english voice acting is that bad.
Believe it!
Naruto's voice is supposed to be annoying.
A bunch of the voices are better in the dub, Kakashi and the Third being the most obvious.
It's not about the quality of the dub. I want the japanese voices.
The other guy dissed the voices. Yes, the game has both options in it, so its a moot point.
Agreed. The issue here isn't the quality of the dub... it's that the japanese voice actors are just better actors than the english ones. Much better.
It's a good thing then that the game includes both voice tracks, Japanese and English.
I'm actually looking forward to this. The videos make it look pretty fun. I'll have to wait for reviews, but I'm definitely going to keep an eye on it.
Something else that I'm really digging from the videos is the use of the actual music in the game. It really seems to add to the experience.

Believe it.
This game looks boring. Very boring.
That's cool.
Why don't you go away now.
I could sit here all day and say that no, you are deaf, but I'm not sure what it would achieve. In my opinion though, the Naruto dub is a sin against dramatic tension, acting, ears, and all things aural.
You know, Naruto's Japanese voice actually doesn't annoy me much. At all. Kakashi's english voice is some badly-acted melodramatic abomination and the third sounds like some dude trying incredibly hard to sound old, if memory serves.
More than that, it's just awful in every way, and the prospect of a game based on it strikes fear into my heart. Yeah, I've heard bad dubs, and Naruto is one of them.
Edit: Also, Xenogears is right: The videos make the game look very boring.
Anyways, I'm pretty excited about this game coming out, though it'll be a rental first
*cough*
I actually got to play the game at an event in Toronto ... the gameplay is pretty sweet, a mixture of platforming/adventure and SFII round based fighting. Tons of fun.
Good to hear the game is getting good previews. I'm familiar with the series and I'm always game for an online fighter, but I may not get it on day one since it drops the same day as Virtua Fighter 5.
(sorry  )

Yeah. I'm being pretty cautious with this game. I'm a fan of the show, and the other two console fighting games are both pretty fun. I've also learned that previews aren't always to be trusted. I'm going to give this game a try though, as one of my friends has already pre-paid it. Hopefully it lives up to the other titles, but man, I dunno.
Here's a (crappy quality) vid of Lee vs. Naruto. The fighting looks fast, fluid and fun. I doubt it'll be the deepest fighting game ever, but it certainly looks fun.
And Naruto using the fox chakra looks really cool.
I just wanted to say that I agree with this 100% -- I have no problems when dubs are done well, but the Naruto one just wasn't. At all. Maybe it's partially due to watching the original version first, but seeing the dub, it seems like all of the voices were matched poorly. The Japanese voice for Naruto doesn't bother me at all, he's supposed to say annoying things, not necessarily have an annoying voice. Sasuke's voice just made me want to turn the television off -- who decided he should sound like he should be saying "Dude" every 5 seconds?
Blech, it was just terrible. It's all opinion, though.
I'm really excited for this game and I'm tempted to put a pre-order down. It just looks incredibly well made, the art is all beautiful and very spot on, and the fighting looks very reminiscent of the Gamecube titles. I'm a little concerned only because I've heard the developers mention that they couldn't come up with unique combos for every character (obviously) -- stating they'd made quite a few of the characters have clones of the same jutsu with different graphics and such.
I just hope it doesn't get stale from that, but I don't think it will. This looks like it's going to be good fun. I'm honestly just hoping it really does well so we can eventually see a conclusion that covers Shipuuden.

Anime related tangent off.
I pray for Death Note once it hits Adult Swim.
Back on Naruto, I'll probably rent it, but only play it on an offline account. I have real people on my friends list that would break my teeth if they say me playing that.
(Sorry if you like it but I don't.....and now I've said that, I'll leave you all to adore it's cartoony charm and oooh look! a chipmunk!)
Natural talent and genius are no match for hard work and passion!
This is the autumn to end all autumns, considering all the must-have games. I'll probably get this after I go through Mass Effect, Assassin's Creed, VF5, Orange Box, etc. etc. Honestly, a lot of great games are going to get overlooked this year, because of all the outstanding games.
the anime is fantastic when you look at its individual parts and not the sum of the whole. During most fights, you can tell they really ramp up the budget, because the animation is usually pretty damn good. The character design and artwork is usually nice to look at, the music is utterly epic, and if you're a fan of good cheesy dialogue, it always delivers. For a guilty pleasure, it's not bad at all.
Personally, I think the english dub is great, so I'm looking forward to this game, Japanese voices or not (which may not happen; Microsoft altered their press release page to remove the word "Japanese" from in front of the phrase "original voice actors", so I wouldn't get your hopes up).
