PS2 Cables, part the 2nd (Euro-style)

WARNING: This applies to Europe and our weirdo standards, I realise this stuff is different in the States.

I've got a widescreen Philips TV, IIRC able to output at a max of 100Hz (this isn't the issue though). I've played at 60Hz on my Gamecube, Dreamcast and oxbox, but when I try to get the PS2 to output at that I get really, really weird neon pink colours. The same PS2 has been able to output at 60Hz at friends houses though.

When I asked my local friendly game store clerk, he said this wouldn't be fixed by buying the proper Scart cable as he had the same issue and it didn't fix it for him. I'm still using the pack-in cinch cable (is that the right name? The red/white/yellow ones is what I mean).

So, anyone have these same issues? Am I screwed or should I get the cable anyway?

Thanks H/A

I have an RGB SCART cable that I bought off Amazon marketplace for about £4. Using the composite cables before (the red/white/yellow one) I couldn't get anything to display in 60Hz.

Now, some games work in 60Hz, some games don't. I can get Viewtiful Joe and Killer7 to display in 60Hz, but Beyond Good and Evil won't (I get the weird colours thing going on). My TV is some nondescript Bush model.

Oh thanks for that. Guess I'll just get it next time I'm down the shops, just hope it can do Okami

Unlike the GameCube, DreamCast and oXbox, the PS2 doesn't output 60Hz in PAL 60; it outputs in NTSC 60Hz. Which isn't strictly compatable with 100Hz televisions; although PAL 60Hz works, this is because the TV deals with the 100Hz stuff on the PAL end of things.

Will it work with RGB scart, which is a different colour system than either NTSC or PAL? Possibly, but possibly not. It really depends how your TV works because it is a 100Hz system.

Wow thanks a lot, doesn't change my options but at least I now understand it. The guy at my game store said it was because of lolsony, but I did have my doubts about that.

I am sure that if you bought a PS2 SCART cable and it didn't work the way you wanted it to, you could easily return it. I've done the same with an Xbox one before.
