Major computer troubles

Woo, so my computer has decided to stop working well.

It's been running fine for the past year or so (since I built it), with a lot of grief in the very begging (PSU's not working with the mainboard, IDE drives getting confused etc etc...basically, I won't buy from DFI ever again, because it was the most troublesome build I've ever had in my life, and now it's being a total bitch).

The problem:
I reinstall windows every couple of months, just to keep things smooth, and to make sure I have a pure backup of all of my important stuff.

I recently reformatted my main drives (twin raptors in a stripping RAID array). When I did so, I started to get BSODs for the first time since i did the build. I checked the system log error reports, and it seemed the ATI drivers were causing the problem. No harm I thought, i'll just go back to my older 7.4 version. Well, once I rebooted after removing and reinstalling, I received a disk boot failure notification, and windows couldnt even start up. I tried in safe mode, and it FROZE UP while trying to boot safely.

UHG.

To keep things short, here have been the series of problems:

-Reinstalled windows again, attaching IDE drives would make the fresh install BSOD and Disc boot once again, it seemed, so I have left those detached. Still had issues after I got it to boot up.

-Tried to reinstall, drives not recognized. Went to rebuild the array, and it FROZE UP on the DOS RAID screen whilst trying to access the drive to setup.

-Took the raptors out, thinking I had found the problem at last, put in twin Maxtor SATA drives.

-installed everything, went smooth, reinstalled all of my apps, then BOOM, half of the day later, disc boot failure.

-Computer would randomly freeze up completely, sometimes stuttering while music was playing, then BSOD after about 5 minutes, or I would just shut down not wanting to wait for it to figure out that a fatal error had occurred.

-Tried several different configurations in my hardware, got a new battery for my CMOS, reset all the settings in the BIOS, turned off unnecessary options. NOTHING helped.

Right now, I have nothing in the PCI slots...just the twin maxtors, my floppy, and my ATI card are connected to the MOBO. It now warns when I boot up to windows (which it has never done before) that the catalyst control center is not recognized with my driver versions. HMM.

It haven't had a disk boot failure since i took all the other components out, but it still freezes then dies, seemingly at random.

My assumptions are that I need a new motherboard, as the problems aren't hdd related, aren't video card related (tried two different ones, one older PCI vid card as well), and probably aren't memory related (the BSOD error I have been getting is the x00000077 variety).

What should I try at this point? Any thoughts?

The mainboard is a DFI lanparty NVIDIA nForce4 SLI, with a 939 socket (opteron 165), a pair of 1 gig memory modules from corsair, and a 1950xtx.

Check for recalls on your mobo. I have a Lan Party rev B, since I had it I had all kinds of heat problems. Turns out that the processor socket was never seated right. Sent mine back for a new one. New one works fine.

How do I tell what revision it is?

I just had two crashes in the last hour, both BSODs. I don't even know If i still have the box for the board, and if I do, if it's even under warranty.

I do not want to buy a new board, since I'm planning on upgrading the system in in january anyway. It would be a waste of 150 dollars that I don't really have right now.

From what I read all signs really point to the motherboard.

I wouldn't rule out memory all together. I would try running memtest on it to see if you come up with any errors.

If you plan on upgrading soon, see if you can find a cheaper motherboard just to get you up and running in the meantime. Or try to RMA it, thats about your only options that I see.

I don't know if I'm contributing anything because it's been said. Check out your RAM first, because that's a simple enough job. Then try to reseat everything. Then see about replacing that mobo.
