And before one of you stupid fucks says anything, I'm not defending animal abusers because I like to abuse animals, the closest thing to animal abuse in my childhood is this one time my little brother (the doctor, not the marine) and some kid from across the street killed a box-turtle by dropping it off a bridge onto rocks over and over until they cracked its shell in half, and I went to my room and cried even though I didn't participate.

I don't understand how the statement "we can tell from a very early age whether a child is likely to be a killer" means anything. Like, the words make sense, and if you forget that there is an intervening period between childhood and adulthood there is an idea being expressed, yes,
but I don't get how it means anything.
Hence my suggestion that granny's statement was greatly simplified beyond what's actually there or that he doesn't remember her exact phrasing.

Well, if something your grandmother said years ago didn't make it into my criminology text published in 2006, I'm going to go ahead and assume that most of the field doesn't agree with her and expect you to demonstrate that she's a lone, righteous crusader against the forces of ignorance. We can identify some trends but they don't have anywhere near the predictive power that your phrasing suggests because the percent of people who exhibit certain behaviors in their childhood and go on to serial-kill is negligible compared to the reverse, and I'm quite certain you're thinking in terms of the reverse.

The Macdonald Triad isn't supposed to predict who is going to be a serial killer. It's meant to predict who is at risk of permanently developing into a sociopath. Most violent felons are sociopaths, but at the same time, most sociopaths are not violent felons.
