Ok I really really hope that somebody here can help me. Up until today I could log on to XBOX Live through Internet Connection Settings ( ICS ) using my dorm rooms VPN connection.
What I had done was Enabling ICS on my VPN connection. Pretty straight forward stuff. THe weird thing is , that this worked for my Windown XP 64bit partition , but for my Windows XP Pro not. Anyway I thought that maybe I had done something to the XP one , since I do like to poke around.
So today the ICS of the VPN Connection didn't work. I have NO idea why. Because I only use the Win64 for XBOX Live. And I didn't change anything to the XBOX . I keep getting this insane DNS server not found error. I have tried everything. Setting the adresses to manual and what not.
The Problem is I can't find ANYTHING on XBOXlive over VPN. THere isn't even allot ( almost nothing) on ICS over VPN.
I am not sure what the Problem is , but afaik it has to do with the way DNS is handled with VPN. You see I can connect to my dorms LAN get an IP and everything. I can even view Uni pages but nothing outside of that.
When I "dial in" using VPN I am online and kicking. So it's a bit of a DNS mess.
Here is my "ipconfig /all" . I have renamed the Adaptors to make clear what is connected to what. Everything is set to automatic.

WIth this automatic conf. this is what the automatic XBOX settings are:
IP Adress: 192,168,0,104
Subnet Mask: 255.255.255.0
Gateway:192.168.0.1
Primary DNS Server: 192.168.0.1
Secondarty DNS Server: 0.0.0.0
As I said before I get an IP but the DNS fails.
Maybe there is a network guru that knows what the problem is? I am somehow lost as to what my correct DNS settings should be. Maybe there is something what I am just not seeing...
I really hope that somebody can help...

I'm assuming you're VPNing out over a network that doesn't allow connection to Xbox live for some reason, but even so... ICS in windows is pretty much crap regardless.
Just making sure of what you are doing before I even bother trying to think about how... as there's got to be a number of much better ways to do what you're trying.
there are, but they tend to be pricier.
I'm just sort of wondering "why" he has to VPN to someplace for his Xbox live in the first place.
I'm assuming he just doesn't have the ICS settings themselves done correctly, or he's got a firewall messing with it... But it's still a horrible way to connect.
The OP said that his dorm room is on a VPN; ie. his Resnet have secured the network by using a VPN connection, rather than something clever.
If that's how their network is designed, I can't even express in words how inefficient and totally stupid that is. That's not even getting into the fact that it probably costs them a shit load more in costs than something that works faster and better.
