What is this building material called?

I was watching a show on HGTV tonight where they were making their own cabinet doors and were using some type of wood that I missed the name of. It can be seen in this picture from the episode. If you click on the picture, the cabinets in the upper right have pretty good detail of what it looks like. It looked like the wood came in sheets similar to plywood, except narrower and maybe shorter. Something like a 2'x6' sheet instead of a 4'x8' sheet. The wood itself appears to be made of smaller pieces glued together, sort of like a shrunken down section of hardwood floor, but I don't know if it is actually solid wood or if it has a veneer or laminate on it. Anyone know if this stuff has a specific name? The wife and I really like the look of it and would like to use it for some remodeling projects we're working on and I figured it would be easier to find if I knew what it was.

Just glancing over Menards' online catalog, it looks like it might be one of their hardwood-plywood products. I can't tell which one in particular (if any) since it's a bit tough to make out much detail in their pictures.

It looks to me just like some bog standard veneer with a clear coat finsih.

We buy this stuff at Lowe's, called paint-grade pine boards, that's sections of pine glued together in a similar way. We like it because it looks pretty nice and is available in wide boards without costing an arm and a leg. It's 3/4" thick, I believe, and would make pretty good interior panels for a cabinet door.

It's unlikely that it's a veneer since it's a cabinet door. Possible, though.

Best bet is to take a trip to your local Home Depot or Lowes or whatever you have, and look at their board products. If none of the local stores have what you're looking for, it's basically useless to plan around it since shipping custom wood is hella pricey.

Thanks for the replies. The stuff Eggy describes sounds closest to what we saw. I'll make a trip out to Lowes and see if they have it tomorrow.

It sounds like everyone else has the general idea of what you're looking for, so this might not help much. However, the material in question looks exactly like butcher's block. In other words, the high quality cutting boards butchers and chefs use. Its made of glued together pieces of wood, much like a good deal of the material mentioned so far.

I'm just adding this in case a manufacturer uses this distinction in naming the material.
