Hey all, I am actually (obviously) new here. I frequent the board over at Nintendorks.com, and when I made a PAX thread over there, Legacy said I should pop up over here.

See, the thing is, I'm all pre-registered, I have my plane tickets, and a hotel reservation, but now my friend who said he'd come is on the fence, so I may be going to the other side of the country alone.

I'm excited about going, but nervous that since I'll be in a strange place, far from all I know and love (and who bring me sammiches) that I shall become withdrawn and not have any of that 'fun' stuff I keep hearing about on the FM radio.

This is my first PAX, first time in washington state, etc.

Tips? Ideas? Ways to overcome irritating social anxiety and actually have fun?

My name is Satch, by the way. I work at a crappy conservative radio station, and...I make jokes. Hi.

I thought it might be a bit wierd when I went to the first PAX, but you will realize when you get there that the shared interests and personalities of people there actually make it very comfortable.

Just remember, you are coming from Washington to Washington. You see, there is no difference, it's just a conspiricy.

But seriously. I don't know if you have a Nintendo DS, but we are trying to get a group together on this board (look for the DS meetup thread) to hang out and play some handhelds together. I don't know any of those people except on the boards. I will only know about 20 people there, maybe not even that.

Even if you don't own one of these delightful handhelds, you are more than welcome to meet up with us, wherever we decided to do that.

Man I remember last year I was talking to some random guy about Final Fantasy, it was cool till he asked me what my favorite one was. I said 7, and he said "I am not talking to you for the rest of this convention" and he turned away from me and acted like a 3-year-old.

Just remember, there are a shit-ton of freaks an fan-boys about as well, not EVERYONE is cool. I, for one, am not a big Sony fan, but it's all good, I don't hate them and I don't freak out at the mention of their name.

Once you get to Bellevue, things will be smooth sailing. The town will be infested with us. And there’s just something about the large amount of geeks in that proximity that makes the environment very comfortable.

I know it's a bit unnerving flying on your own to a place you've never been to hang with people you never met. But I guarantee that this particular experience is worth it.

And for the love of god, DO NOT miss the Missbosses show. For me it was the highlight of 2004's PAX.
