    I currently work two jobs.

One is a college campus job, which essentially boils down to filling printers and babysitting computers. That pays $7.15 an hour, but is quite possibly the easiest job in existence, and more importantly, has the potential to land me a full-time position after I graduate.

My other job is register monkey at a very low-traffic EB games. $7.25 an hour (plus discounts and other benefits) to crack jokes with awesome co-workers, and maybe ring up 5 people an hour on busy days. Only reason we're even open is because of a contract with the mall until 2010. On top of this, I will almost assuredly get a senior position as soon as I graduate (assuming I don't get a cushy college job full-time).

So yeah, my wages blow, but the future looks good.

    Yeah totally.

They live in a pretty nice house, they both drive newer cars, they have a motorcycle and a camper, they're looking at putting a hot tub in the backyard, Marty flies home to Japan every year.

It was a bit harder when it was just my mom, my brother and me and she was only making maybe 30 a year and still paying off student loans.

But fuck, now they are sitting pretty with this month's cheese basket.

I can totally understand how it is for most people, but for me I like the fact that the players actually impact the game. It's not just about bragging rights over which guild does best in PvP or who has the rarest items, player corporations can actually take control of systems and enemy player corps can attack and steal those systems from them. I also like the fact that there's no power leveling in Eve. There aren't even character levels or classes for that matter, just levels in different skills and those skills train up even when you're offline. That means a character that's been active for 6 months is just inherently going to be more effective (depending on what skills they trained) than a character that's 2 months old. There is no twinking in Eve.

Vancouver is also nuts. I was living in a 465 sq ft 1 bedroom for 1000/m. Now I live in a 1000 sq ft 2 bedroom for 1700. 850 dollars to live with a roommate is still ridiculous but at least we can split up other costs as well.

It's only going to get worse by the time 2010 gets here though. I hope to be gone by that time.

Mully, you live in the most expensive part of Canada.

Yeah. You're a smart cookie Nap, so let me pick your brain on this -

    Here's the situation:

We want to accomplish two things with a house purchase in the next two years: stay within the school district we're already in so the kids don't have to move schools, and get into a place that can not only has the space we want, but is middle-of-the-road investment-wise for a 2-year flip.

Problem really is, Redmond real estate blows ass. Found some interesting properties in the area, many of which would be worth the investment to upgrade and so on, but it just makes me nervous getting into an $800k project :|

(I pull in a little over $90 or so a year, and the woman slightly more than that, so combined we're doing OK, so it's not that)

I've been doing my research, and Redmond, Woodinville\Bothell...they're all prime areas with tons of current and future growth. But dang. Getting ready to pull the trigger on this kind of thing is way harder than I ever thought it would be.

I'm an entry level engineer with a Hydro IPP here in BC. You may have read about how evil we are in the Straight recently.

Next month, I'll be moving from a nice 2 bedroom basement suite where i live by myself to a bedroom in a 4 bedroom house that is currently occupied by wow addicted animals masquerading as humans. I expect to be driven insane, but the difference will be that I will be paying approximately 1/8th of my take home pay in rent/utils, rather than the 1/3 to 4/9ths that I pay now.

    Which means hookers and popcorn.

Yeah...seems like real estate in the I-5 corridor is pretty crazy. I'm assuming that this is your first real estate purchase, Rage?

You and Mrs. Rage seem to have plenty of income to go for a $800k property, but I can understand the trepidation; personally speaking, I'd pick Redmond over the other options in the same price range.

You would be welcome to join Eve, but keep in mind that Eve has a very rough learning curve and life's hella hard as a noob. It's much, much less painful with a strong player corp behind you (Goonswarm does a fantastic job of bringing new goons up to speed with their wiki) but it still takes a while before you have enough skill points to do much. It requires a significant amount of patience, but I like the game.

I've only been playing for a couple of months and I can take part in fleet ops as a tackler (though I haven't yet) and I'm making decent money salvaging. It'll be a little bit longer before I'm into a raven and able to equip it decently for ratting in 0 sec space.
