Help, my computer is possessed.

My computer beeps at me.

It only seems to do it when I'm browsing the web, and only when I actually click a link. While the data is downloading, and the page displaying, I get this semi-melodic string of beeps. This, as best I can tell, is the only thing that causes it. I thought maybe it was an overheating thing, caused by excessive processor load or something, but I tried doing blatantly processor-intensive things, like rendering complicated 3D scenes in 3DS Max, and using filters in Photoshop, and nothing. It's just web browsing. Downloading files doesn't seem to do it, only loading web pages.

It doesn't happen every time I do this, only sporadically, like maybe once a week or so. It doesn't seem connected to how long the computer's been running.

So... umm... wtf?

i, uh, i've seen this exact behavior on computers infected with a virus of some kind.

the only other thing i can think of is that perhaps some hardware on your system is using the same IRQs as your sound hardware. but that hasn't been a problem since systems from the Win98 period...

Dammit, I knew I should've given my computer a condom before I set it loose in Thailand.

A'ight, I'll run a virus scan on it.
