Laptop audio = dead. (SOLVED!)

So, I'm having some trouble on my laptop (which is an Ibuypower).

The audio just doesn't seem to want to work. I downloaded what I thought to be the latest drivers from realtek here
http://www.realtek.com.tw/downloads/downloadsView.aspx?Langid=1&PNid=23&PFid=23&Level=4&Conn=3&DownTypeID=3&GetDown=false#AC

and nothing changed. I am running Vista Business. Right now, the little speaker icon in the system tray has a red x on it, and when I right click it and go to playback devices, none are listed (none meaning including the disabled and disconnected, there's nothing there.

Also, in the device manager, it shows my sound, video, and game controllers with 1 item and that is
"Realtek AC97 Audio for VIA (R) Audio Controller" and the little speaker has a yellow ! on it. I know this usually means there's something wanged with the drivers, hence it lead me to update them

So, thought? I think I included everything you need but if you have questions just let me know.

UPDATE: Thanks, apparently only the drivers that came with the machine will work. I just dug them out and it worked like a charm.

Realtek audio sucks balls. Does the device manager tell you any pertinent information when you go to the properties of the device. IE "This device cannot start" or something of that nature? If your soundcard pooped out and all the drivers in the world won't fix it you can use a usb headset. They have their own built in sound card. Thats what we use for my wife's laptop that the soundcard died on.
