Apparently this comes out soon for the PS2. Some big ol' collection of a bunch of the Neo Geo fighting game characters all whacking it out in 2-D. Anyone heard anything about it? I've never played a Neo Geo fighter but I have some bizzare affection towards 2-D fighters with tons of characters even tho I suck heroically at them.
Here's some info shamelssly stolen from Wickipedia:
The game system of the arcade NGBC, as previously mentioned, is a 2 vs 2 tag battle, regardless to how many players are playing. While the 2-player game system is similar to most tag-team systems of other games, the single player system is unusual.
The game's single play is more like a survival battle, where the player must beat enemies after enemies as long as possible. However, the game gives the player 300 seconds, and when time-out occurs, instead of win or lose, the player will face the boss (depending on how well they perform). Only at this point of time is when time out will determine the victor.
During a single-play, the rule is to defeat ANY member of the team, not both team members. That is, unlike most tag-team systems, but similar to Kizuna Encounter or Tekken Tag Tournament, where all opposition must be beaten in order to win, in NGBC, the player only needs to beat up one member of the team to win, without the need to fight the other member if the former is defeated.
The survival battles are divided into rounds of 3 battles, and after a player manages to clear 3 opponent teams, they are given a chance to use one of the three game services provided:
The first is to gain more time. Extra time helps the player to beat more teams, which is so because the game records the number of teams defeated in the hi-score table.
The second is to gain full power gauge. This is simply to blow the opposition away as soon as the next battle starts.
The third is adding more life. Self-explanatory, especially due to the winning condition mentioned earlier.

Goodman: The real final boss of NGBC. He uses a flaming whip both as a weapon, and to command a fire-like gorilla spirit (called Saru Ou, or Gorilla King) in a manner similar to an animal tamer. Interestingly enough, he looks very similar to Igniz, end boss of The King of Fighters 2001.
Too little King of Monsters as far as I'm concerned.
This game is also only going to be 15$ on the PS2, I think. I'm probably gonna pick it up, I've been a fan of SNK fighters for a long time. Can't wait to try out Marco from Metal Slug.
Ah, I'm new. I didn't realise that it was such a common question. Although I guess I should have guessed. Why should it be ported to Wii, its not exactly suited to Wii. Although, Guilty Gear is on Wii now right?
Yeah, if this game had a miniaturized version of that mechanical ape from King of the Monsters I'd be all over this. Then again it does have the much-maligned World Heroes, which makes me happy.
And Athena. Holy crap, I thought I was the only one who played that.
So can anyone describe which games the hidden characters are from?
Edit: Hang on, cyber woo IS that ape, isn't he? I'm stupid.

They are all in King of Fighters. Joe, Mary and Andy are originally from Fatal Fury, while Ralf & Clark are from Ikari Warriors. The rest are original characters. The secret characters are KoF exclusive as well, though K9999 is a "tribute" to Tetsuo from Akira.
You know, this game has been off my, and everyone else's, radar ever since it was announced. I'm a huge SNK fighter connoisseur, but I know very little about it. It's rarely discussed, and I really haven't encountered many people who have actually played it. I attribute this to the fact that no one has played it in the arcade, and that it has only been out in Europe/Japan thus far.
The game has a fuckton of characters, so I don't know why it hasn't gained much exposure, even among the hardcore fighting community. I guess you could attribute it to the game being shit, but I haven't heard any significant criticism against it. Mreh, I guess I should pick it up. It's been out in Europe for forever, and it's only like $20.
Cherrn on
All creature will die and all the things will be broken. That's the law of samurai.

Ah, don't worry about chasm. He's just bitter about the amount of posts about the Wii in the Bionic Commando thread.
Yeah, I think it came out today or yesterday for the Wii. It's on the PS2 as well.
SNK has said in the past that they plan on supporting the Wii, and that the other two systems cost too much and/or have too small of installed bases for them to publish something for at this time; they're planning on putting stuff out for the 360/ps3 in 2009 iirc.
SNK's main market right now is on the PS2 though. It just makes sense for them to put their fighters on it right now.

Are you talking disk games? Or all around? Because the 360 just got Fatal Fury Special recently, and I believe we're getting a couple Metal Slugs really soon as well.
The game is a bit unballanced, but is still a good deal of fun. I've had the import since it was released, and while it has not got as much play lately, when we got it in it was a regular at our fighting game parties.
It kinda is since this is PS2 only and the PS2 is (supposedly) dying and the PS3 is losing BC. Were this to be released on a current generation platform it would have to be the Wii because it doesn't meet the PS3 and 360 HD requirements.
So it's more along the lines of "Any chance of a port to a not-depreciated system?"
Well, it's four months later but I managed to finally pick it up. I IMMEDIATELY went to unlock Mars Peopls because he's just fucking adorable in a very Japanese Tentacle Hentai way. Tag Team mode is pretty easy even for me until I got to the end boss. Holy Fucking shit what a pain in the ass. If it wasn't for that "25% Enemy Health" option when you continue I never would have beat him. He regenerates instantly.

What was the price tag on this game again, i feel it is my civic duty to buy all 2d fighters.
Unfortunately the US port of NGBC has some pretty severe slowdown in certain stages (dragon stage especially). They fixed the atrocious load times of the Japanese port, but the US port is nearly unplayable at tournament level.
If you guys want to see some high level NGBC matches from the best players in the US (possibly the world, as US and Japan have never played each other in this game), check out these Youtube channels:
I just got this game yesterday. I ordered both it and KOFXI off amazon.com for 15$ each. Haven't had a lot of time to play it but so far it's a lot of fun.

Hey, that's what I did AND that's when I got them! We're synched up, you and me. O_o
I owe it to myself to get these two games; KOF XI and NGBC.
I played both of these at the arcades, though, so I partially did my part.
It's just that I don't have a lot of time, and I feel like it's a pretty big commitment to really dig deep into good 2D fighters and get the most out of them.

Haha, crazy. I ordered God Hand too, plus I have the bitter play through of No More Heroes to do so I'm drowning in awesome games.
I've played some more and am enjoying it. I like how the game plays fairly differently from KoFXI. I was afraid they'd be too much alike due to coming out close together and sharing a bunch of characters. I know it doesn't really matter that much, but I'm a bit disappointed in the endings for characters in NGBC. Its just text that scrolls too quickly and is hard to read. KoFXI has really groovy kinda-animated endings.
But where it counts, the gameplay, it's ace. Marco and Mudman are awesome.
I unlocked Athena last night and I find I could care less. She's pretty dull looking.
God I suck at these games. The only combo I can pull off is a jump kick. I don't even know what a combo is much less how to do one. The only special moves I can do is fireball+punch which will usually do SOMETHING with whoever I'm using.
I tried KOFXI last night too and it's REALLY groovy. The characters are all so normal looking; it's really weird. I did REALLY well with Kula, I think I actually managed to get a combo a few times.
But, christ, these SNK bosses are mega-cheap. They just spam projectiles constantly. It's more game to actually GET UP TO THEM then it is to actually hit them.

I assume you haven't played too many SNK fighters before. Welcome to the wonderful world of SNK bosses. Please bend over.

I prefer bosses like Geese or Rugal compared to guys like Mizuchi. Mizuchi is just pure spam and barely feels like an enemy, while Geese and Rugal feel more like complete fighters and give you a glimmer of hope and then brutally crush you if you even think about attacking.
Mizuchi was a huge pain. I just had to spam buttons and hope I got lucky.
The guy at the end of KOFXI was even worse. I eventually beat him with the reduced health "cheat" and the big vulture headed dude spamming suplexes. He still beat Vulture Head but then the rubbery guy in the bathrobe eventually hit him since he was at about 1 health. Took me about 7 tries tho.
Posts
Not as excited as I am about KoF XI, but at $20 there's no way I'm missing this.
EDIT: In fact I think I'll go make a KoF XI thread.
After dinner, that is.
Final Fantasy XI -> Carbuncle - Samash
KoF XI is actually supposed to come out first isn't it?
According to Amazon, KoF XI comes out Oct. 23, and NGBC comes out Nov. 13.
Is this necessary in every motherfucking thread?
XBL : lJesse Custerl | MWO: Jesse Custer | Best vid ever. | 2nd best vid ever.
Cool, that's what I thought, just haven't checked recently. Definitely looking forward to both of these.
Only the ones not about Wii games . . .:P
And Athena. Holy crap, I thought I was the only one who played that.

Nuff said?

They had this game in Einstein's for quite a while, back when it was new. Not any more though.

Kula is S-tier in XI. Kula, Gato, Oswald is basically the highest tier team in the game.
Here is a match that shows some of what Athena can do at a high level:

I really need to learn their names.
Where is the other boss? I beat Mizuchi and the game ended.
edit: Hioly shit, there's 3 other bosses. Are any of them unlockable to play? Hopefully powered way way down?
