The Guiding Principles and New Rules document is now in effect.
I got the GOTY edition on the cheap from Amazon ($4.00!). After playing up to Hong Kong, I checked a walktrhough and discovered that I missed an Aug Canister in Battery Park. Do Aug cans I miss ever reappear, or will I be without that particular Aug for the game? Also, what areas is each Aug Canister located in?
You'll be fine, generally. I can't remember exactly which one you missed but they generally reappear. And if you really want to know where each canister is, check a FAQ, but that's ruining the game for yourself. Don't worry too much; it's not an incredibly tough game even without all the best augs. Since they all have alternatives, there's no part of the game you can't complete without a specific aug.
(not having Deus Ex installed is sort of like The Game,in that as soon as someone mentions it you lose and have to reinstall it for another playthrough)
I'm ashamed to say that I don't recall ever beating Deus Ex. I think I got pretty far though.
Escaped custody, got into Majestic 12 (12?)'s base with the help of that pilot dude and ran around that place for awhile, but I can't remember the rest
Damn you ben, I just lost the Game :P it's been so long, I almost forgot what it was
I'm hoping there'll be a Let's Play for Deus Ex (Wasn't there one earlier? I need to search >_>)
Don't worry about it, as said before, the game is pretty easy anyway, plus you can get the same Aug cannisters elsewhere. You will find a place in the game that specifically deals with aug cannisters so you should be able to recover the same one there
Edit: Whever I play Deus Ex, I allways start off planning to play in a different style to how I normally play it, and every time I end up a stealthy humane hacker - no kills unless absolutely needed to forwards my personal mission, or someone trys to fuck me over.
I just want to say I am NOT ging to reinstall this game, even though it is staring me right in the face, calling out me tellingf me just how good she is and that we've not done it in such a looong time....
....Okay, maybe I will be reinstall the damn thing.
I think I'm the only gamer real who didn't think Deus Ex was soo awesome. I loved system shock 2, and ultima underworld 2 is my favorite game ever... but deus ex didn't do it for me. I only got like 4 hours in. The problem for me stems from the fact that I'm a perfectionist in video games, and in Deus Ex, you can't please everyone... some people will hate you if you kill everyone, for instance, and some people will call you a pussy if you don't kill anyone... I guess I should probably just suck it up and role-play a little bit better in the game and accept that one minor character disliking me is just part of the game...
also, there's no need to do a Let's Play of this game, because no Let's Play for any game could ever trump this one.

One of my fave runs was only using blades to kill. The only ragned attack I had was my very small collection of throwing knives. Leaping across rooftops while cloaked, then activating the targeting aug then nailing a commando in the head with a throwing knife in complete silence was one of my favorite moments. It was just so ninja.
OH FUCKBEANS! Now I'v gotta re-install it now.
Sigh, looks like I'll be attempting another ironman run. What the hell is it with this game and people re-installing and replaying it randomly whenever they hear about it? I'v beaten it at least 5, maybe 6 times already and even made mods and maps for it ut still am not tired of it.

Not only are there extra aug cans of the same type, but you can mix and match slots instead of using each type of can once. For example, you have two subdermal augmentation slots and there are two aug upgrade cans for subdermal: (very minor spoiler, list of augs)
Cloak/Radar Transparency and Ballistic Protection/EMP shield. You could use one of each, and have say cloak and ballistic protection, but alternately you can wait and find two Cloak/Radar Transparency augs and install both cloak and radar transparency.
So missing a single cannister wont handicap you, but it might result in you using an unusual loadout of augs.
Also, this game is awesome. You wont regret picking it up.

BASTAGE, I was really holding out for a win this time!

Wait what? Only if you exploit some bug that I'm not aware of.
Since its my first time playing, my skills are somewhat unfocused-only H.weapons, swimming and enviro are untrained, while Computer is my only Advanced.
So far, its taking me at most 3 trys to figure out. Right now my biggest obstacle is remembering to save :P
...it's only $4 boxed. You must really hate going outside.
I'm just picturing this blubbery mass sitting at his computer shouting 'omygod' over and over again, flaling like that fat kid you see in those animated gifs

$4? we brits don't use that crazy money. Although i see Ben's moved from Cornwall to Southampton (yes, i stalk everyone, deal with it), so maybe he has more money to afford the luxury of the $10 Steam version.

Unless you live in Canada where it's $15 for the jewel case version.
This game, still, STILL has the best environments of any game I've ever played, including Halo and Half-Life. Hong Kong is so goddamn perfect, it's unreal.

I'm having to live on Cheese Toasties and Frosties because my student loan still hasn't cleared. I'm in no fit state to afford anything (though Deus Ex comes before food, priority wise)

You know, the above post/conversation is hilarious, but only because of the accents. Without them suddenly it loses the funny. Like a really really bad comedy where no one knows how to deliver the punchlines...
...and all because of an accent. Funny, I wonder why that is...
And as for Deus Ex, even though I've never completed it (because I'm evil and never finish anything) I'm prepared to call it one of (if not the) greatest games ever. It basically is the perfect balance of everything and puts other games to complete shame when they try to cross even remotely into the same area.
Which is really sad when you think about it. Wouldn't it be great to have something with the graphics of Doom 3/Bioshock/Etc but with this kind of gameplay? The experience would I dare say be visceral.
Ion Storm will mostly be remembered for their excessive spending and the flop that was Daikatana.
Yet one of the greatest games of all time came out of there, too, in the form of Deus Ex.
I think at this point, they're more remembered for what they did once John Romero's portion of the company folded.
Warren Spector's studio was in a whole different city in a very modest office building and that was where Deus Ex was born. Once Romero's grand penthouse of game design that everyone actually ended up hating failed, the small office lived on.
But then they made DXIW and Thief 3. DXIW probably being the only failure Ion Storm is really remembered for for the most part these days. Ion's early days seem to be, well, not quite be forgotten, but far less talked about. And Thief 3 is considered a failure too, but only by the Thief community. But seriously, who really cares about them? They do, obviously, but I'm pretty sure they're the only ones.

Son of a bitch!
And here I thought I might actually have some free time coming up.
I'm hoping there'll be a Let's Play for Deus Ex (Wasn't there one earlier? I need to search >_>)

Edit: Thanks HJ. (how did he get it so right )
Just so much raw power.... and to top it off, the best story of any FPS, ever.

Damn it all to hell. My Dwarfs can wait a bit while I play Deus Ex.
Reinstalling, gonna run it in Parallels.

So dang awesome. My friend and I would compare playthroughs during chemistry. I've done no kills and all kills, hack, sneak, run 'n gun...
God what a cool game.
