So I hear you like boss fights.

Welcome to...

Mega Man ZX Advent

You want info? So be it.

ZX Advent is set several years after its predecessor, with two brand new protagonists, Grey and Ashe.

hero.gif

See them? They're new. Like virgins they are, ripe to be blown up time and time again by falling on sharp spikes. Smell innuendo somewhere.

However, our old heroes will reappear in the game, with Vent showing up in Ashe's story, and Aile making her appearance in Grey's story.

So you think after the last game the Reploids and humans would finally live in harmony? Wrong. So wrong that you should feel bad. War and turmoil is rising up yet again, and it's up to you to be a bad enough dude to stop it, using your trusty Model A.

But who cares about story? These games are about action.

meavds002.jpg

Oh yeah.

firemm.jpg

That's how we like it.

bossfightmm.jpg

Did I mention the return of the anime cutscenes? I'm sure I did, oh yes, mmhmm.

180px-Wiki-zxa-anime.jpg

Features!
+ All new, improved Map System. Thank God.
+ Model A enables the ability to transform into defeated bosses.
+ Wireless Co-Op and Head to Head play
+ Old Models also make a return
+ Spikes and Pits

Hey look, goodies!

So, this game comes out next week. Anyone else as excited as me?

Next week? I'm seeing November 13th as a release date as well as October 23rd. If it's really next week, then I shall have it. Because I am a Megaman whore and I loved the first ZX game, even with its crappy map.

I hope they changed the map system this time around. Finding out how to reach your destination was a bitch in ZX.

Judging by the videos you get to transform into bosses AND use all the ZX armors? That's pretty cool.

I had heard November 13th as well... Wiki even changed it's date to that as well. However, it's been changed back to October 23rd. So... hopefully?

Also, apparently the map is much better this time. Should prolly add such things to the OP.

EDIT: OP added to. Also, Gamestop is showing October 23rd as a release date as well.

And I agree with Fireflash. Finding your way around ZX was a huge nuisance.

So, after checking with the local Gamestop, they claim November 13th is the release date as well. So, uh... Anyone have confirmation either way?

I will wait to decide what I think about this game once I see for certain how the new map looks and works. I am hoping they just fucking make it exactly like the handheld Castlevanias. Or Super Metroid if you prefer. Then I will own this game.

I guess Capcom decided that Phoenix Wright and Mega Man on the same day was too much awesome.

    ... Still, very disappointing.

EDIT: And yet, Capcom's site still lists the release date as October 23rd. It'd be real nice if I could get excited about this again.

Honestly, I got bored with ZX because I didn't like the overworld layout of the stages. They should just go back to linear stages with plenty of ass-kicking, like in Megaman Zero which was awesome.

As far as I know, the overworld style of the game hasn't changed. However, the map has changed significantly. So hopefully getting to the 'levels' won't be such a hassle this time around.

Seriously, wasting hours running around finding nothing? That's just silly.

I played ZX for about 10 hours. Being used to Metal Slug and Castlevania I just could not get used to be unable to duck or shoot any other direction than straight ahead.
After those 10 hours I traded in for Trauma Center:SO for Wii. Other genre but defently more fun for me.

Getting to play as the bosses seems kind of lame to me. Wish they'd go back to the MMZ style forms and such. I'll take two or three distinct and rounded forms over 12 HUGE boss forms that will probably only be good for one very specific thing each.

So, English voices this time. You can hear them in the second video listed here at GameSpot

    My opinion?

    MegaMan Legends/2/Tron Bonne > X8/CM/Maverick Hunter X/Powered Up > ZX Advent > X7/MM8/X4

Put in plainspeak, it's tolerable. Decent, not the best we've had, but not the worst.

But that's based only on four characters so far. It's weird, because I thought I heard they were getting the same group that did CM-PU for it.

A step above MM8? I think you gave MM8 too much credit, bunching it with X7 and X4. They did like one take of all the lines read, with one voice actor constantly stumbling over his lines but they kept it in.

I never found the bosses to be too hard, unless you were trying to get a high level chip or whatever out of them, then it's a pain the ass. But since you can just buy all the abilities back later it doesn't really matter. They're not MMX easy, but not MMZ hard, either.

That's good, MMX was hard until you got a couple upgrades and then it became stupid easy. MMZ was smashing your GBA against the wall hard.

I might have to pick Advent up then. I haven't given my DS any attention lately :(

I think MMX's bosses are easy. I went through a play through of the game a couple of weeks ago only using the X-Buster against them all.

MMX is what, the easiest game of the X/Zero/ZX series?

Not to say it's a worse game for it; it's actually up there as one of the best X games.

    But it's definitely easy.

A game definitely doesn't have to be difficult to be enjoyable. The thing about the first X game is that it was something new to Megaman. I think everyone that went from the little blue dude to X can identify with that - it was like Megaman on steroids; a more badass hero.

MMX3 has some of the hardest bosses, I think, out of any of them I've played. I didn't like it though.

MMX still holds its head high as my all-time favorite Megaman game. It took the series and did new things, and did them extraordinarily well.

As for ZX's difficulty, I'd certainly place it between the Zero and X series. Normal is right in the middle, with Hard mode well on the Zero side of things.

... Damn, I still haven't beaten my Hard Mode playthrough. On the last boss and everything. It's just too much.

ZX on hard mode is crazy. I haven't done it myself. Despite that, I hope ZXA lives up to ZX well. Again, they need to improve the map layout. It was way too confusing.

Also, just a note about the X series; you said it did new things, and I don't think that's entirely accurate. I think it, instead, gave everything a different feel. It wasn't a silly plan by some scientist, it was a coup, or rebellion, being fought. Kinda set a new stage, or setting. New feel. But all the core Megaman qualities are present still.

That's a good point. However, I do think the that the different feeling led to a different type of gameplay. Despite my love for all things Megaman, I have yet to beat a classic game. I've beaten almost every other one, but none from the classic series. They just go so slow.

This is where X changed things quite a bit. It was an introduction to the fast and hectic gameplay that the Zero series is known for. Now it was a bit less about level memorization, and a bit more reaction. Plus, the additions of dashing and wallgrabbing really changed the entire dynamic of the boss fights.

So I'd think it's fair to say that MMX did some new things with how the series was played.

Megaman Zero and Megaman ZX took the approach that all stages are accessible on your own time. Z2, Z3, and Z4 were all stage selection. So it isn't exactly an over-saturated idea with the Megaman series.

The Z series is pretty damn slick, I think, despite the obstacles the creator ran into when Capcom fucked over his storyline by making X6. Zero 4 is pretty much the least interesting in the series, it's there to bring it to a close and that's that.
