Trip around the world, inoculations, passport, what else?

So I just got an invite to participate in the Greate Race 2008. All expenses paid. I cleared it with work (still not sure how I got that one pulled off considering the workload I'm under right now) so I'm pretty much set to go. Time to start whoring for sponsorships now.

So besides a passport and inoculations against strange things that can kill me, what things should I know or think to bring with me on a worldwide road rally from NY to Paris.

Here are a few things that can help/protect you against anything. (Also this is assuming that you're going WEST from New York and then through much of Asia).

    - A crowbar (as a gamer, paying homage to the crowbar, also it's very useful as a weapon and as a tool)
    - Car repair tools (they might provide you with this, but just pick up a kit at the local Canadian Tire or whatever)
    - A big knife (pocket knife as well)
    - duct tape as the post above suggests, a few rolls.
    - Bring a wad of cash, in case you need to trade with the locals for emergency supplies or something (I really don't know how the Great Race works so I'm just brainstorming).
    - Picture of the family (wife/gf/mom/dad/whatever)
    - Porno mag. You do NOT want to get an STD from some local bar whore. So keep the horny down (and it helps you fall asleep!)
    - Sleeping bag (sleep in the car!)
    - Solar power generator (like $100 at the cheapest) when you're on the road for a long time.

And if at all possible; a handgun (Or just buy a gun when you're going through Asia).

Well I don't know a whole lot about road rallies but hopefully he'll be too busy navigating and driving to get into too much trouble. And I imagine a gun is kind of extreme. Again though, I'm just guessing.

    Edit: Here you go.

Now, I stand to be corrected - but even though this is a "great race" aren't you still subject to the same customs rules as anyone else?

i.e. - how are you going to get knives and handguns through customs at the various borders you cross?

You won't. Knives are probably fine, but a gun sounds like a good way to end up in some gulag. hoho.gif

I wouldn't worry about anything other than personal effects. Which car will you be in?

That seems like a great plan, travel the world, shoot people.

You should try and kibble a First Aid kit for general little emergencies.

duct tape for sure, super glue is a good idea use it to patch small cuts and the like, alcohol wipes, if you drink tea or coffee your fav brand, good candy, and as for a blade just make it 4 inches or under and make sure it has a blade and serration sides.

One of those fire starters that Bear Grylls uses. You never know, your car might break down miles and miles from rescue. Get a snow suit if at all possible, freezing doesn't always require snow.
