I just thought people here might wanna DL it off the JPN PSN store. You can make a JPN account from any territory, I just forgot how exactly. There are some Japanese options that I don't know how to read. I found a tutorial for doing it a while ago when the first Folklore demo came out.
I gotta say, it's fucking gorgeous and the cockpit view is phenominal. Grade A stuff.
I'm interested in GT5, but definitely not in Prologue. It's an expanded demo that you have to pay for. Why pay for that when you can just wait a few months later and buy the full game with all the content of Prologue?

I'm not saying charging for it is a bad thing, given it has a comparable price tag for what it offers. The idea of charging for a partially completed game is just one I don't recall ever hearing before.
THIS demo does not cost any money. THIS demo is 1 track and some cars. Like 8 I think. However, over the course of a few days, cars beyond the first 3 or so will be added. The final product of GT5: Prologue will cost money, but this is a demo of a demo. And is thusly free.

Oh nice.

I'm still pissed the game doesn't have damage modeling, especially after playing a lot of Forza 2 earlier this year where it's such an integral part of the gameplay. Like I'm soured to the whole idea of this game now and don't really care about it, while otherwise this would have been one of the games I bought a PS3 for.
Playing this game with the Logitech racing wheel was awesome. I didn't get a good time on the racing track, ut I beat the test time. Watching the replays for the top racers are insane thouhgh, you gotta wonder how they do it.

well at least damage modeling will be coming in GT5
How does one access this cockpit view? I can only seem to cycle through front bumper, 3rd person behind, and ontop of the roof views.
Edit: Opps. Turns out there is no cockpit view for the GT-R because it's not out yet and I guess they haven't modeled it. All the other cars have beautifully rendered cockpits though, complete with dynamic lighting.
For anyone who doesn't know how to set up a japanese PSN account:
-Select 'sign up for Playstation Network'
-Select Japan as your region and enter a birthdate
-There will be two options, one (upper) with a short paragraph and one (lower) with a longer paragraph. Choose the upper one.
-Here it asks for an email, password, password confirmation, and security question. You do not actually need a functional email for this, I just make stuff up.
-Then it will ask you to choose a PSN name.
-Finally it asks for your personal info, you can enter literally anything here.
Easy as pie. Also, the download manager will continue working if you switch back to your regular account and play something else.
Haven't tried the demo yet, it finished sometime after I went to bed.

Someone at Polyphony (don't remember who exactly) said that it will not. It's in its Wikipedia entry.

IGN.com have confirmed new aspects of the game and it's release (their information from Sony). The game will be released in two versions. One on the PlayStation Store and one on Blu-Ray Disc. The Blu-Ray Disc version has been confirmed to include damage, whereas the PS Store version will be without damage. On the other hand, the PS Store version will prevail from quicker loading times. The PS Store version will not be free and will probably be priced slightly cheaper than the Blu-Ray version because of the lack of features that the Blu-Ray version includes. Sony/IGN have also said that the European release date of the game will be sometime in 2007. Only Japan and Europe have confirmed release dates. [7]
Anyway, downloaded the demo yesterday and jesus christ I suck at it. I beat the GT HD times all fairly easily but when racing against actual cars, I just have no patience.

Sounds easy enough. Is there anything other than the GT5P demo that's worthwhile? Or is everything else available on the US store?

What the FUCK. Why would they do this??? Wouldn't this mean Blu-Ray people can only play online with other Blu-Ray people, and vice versa?

WHOA WHAT?? THIS YEAR!?
Oh wait, for Prologue haha... oh well I'm still relatively excited

If damage is only cosmetic then they could play against each other, PSN users just wouldn't see any damage
Thanks for the directions (although I think a few steps were missing but I got it eventually)!
I need to echo a few other posts: this is, by far, the best cockpit view in a driving game I have ever seen. I think it comes down to the lighting inside. I noticed, for instance, in the BMW that when the sun was behind me it would glare off the speedometer and make it hard to see. I am a big fan of in-cockpit views as I play games for the experience factor and so I'll be buying my first GT game when this comes out.
So apparently three new cars have now been unlocked, as well as the in-car view for the Nissan GT-R. Oh and four new videos are up for download within GT-TV. I haven't checked it out yet, I'll do so pretty soon.
by using friends download history apparently you can still get the prologue demo. anyone try this? I don't know anything about the friend list since I just got the ps3 yesterday, so someone might be just bs'in me. I really want this :P
Posts
i might do it tomorrow morning in off-peak time so i don't blow my download cap
does it look heaps better than GT HD?
maybe i'll do it now
I suppose I just prefer NFS...

PGR4 will have a slight edge visually over this game, but is not a simulator.
Forza 2 will be a few steps behind this game visually, but will still remain the better simulator, due to damage and better overall road physics.
Let's play Mario Kart or something...

Really? Colour me impressed. How are the cockpit models?
I think they look darn good. I might have to play the PGR4 demo again to see how they compare.

absolutely amazing. it makes me consider actually buying the thing before it's released properly
