The Guiding Principles and New Rules document is now in effect.
So I'm kind of in recovery from a pretty awful bout of depression over the summer. I feel a bit better now but I've also woken up to the condition of my life. I'm 26, single, really don't like my job and am not very happy. I've lost contact with pretty much anyone from college and really don't feel like I've got ties to many people anymore. My job doesn't really lend itself to meeting new people my age either. I feel stuck without any options to rebuild my social life and it sucks.
Start doing a sport, preferably one where you meet people of the opposite gender as well. I'm not sure how tennis clubs work where you live, but over here there's a lot of tourneys and competitions where there's always people to play against and drink something with afterwards.
Also: not drinking booze isn't frowned upon, people just assume you're trying to be healthy.
I have been pursuing a new job for ages. It's not easy in the Film industry
You could always drop into the porn industry. That would let you meet people.
Seriously, though, what aspect of the film industry? You could probably find a new job that, while not in the film industry per say, could use some of your skills.
Yeah honestly, you really should consider getting out of that industry...not because it is a bad one but because it's dog eat dog and all about who you know.
As for the no friends part, I was suggested www.meetup.com on this board a while ago (when I was in the same situation as you), and I can't recommend it enough to others. It's a great way to just get out and talk with others out there that have the same interests as you, and maybe you'll come out with a friend or five.
Another thing you can possibly do (I know I can't due to physical condition) is join a kickball league. I hear those are fun. http://www.kickball.com/
I wanted to get into film a while back, but all i've heard from both people I know working in the industry, and people who have been in the industry or tried to get into it is that it's miserable and not at all a good idea to get into unless you have money or have connections.
What about a Unitarian Universalist church? I hear they tend to be quite moderate and open. Of course, if there's not one near Nexus's area, then it won't be a viable option for socializing.
Only if you believe what they want you to. Otherwise it's the opposite of a good place for community.
Unless nexuscrawler is a religious person, and a Christian/Catholic one at that, I don't think church is a viable place for meeting others. I know from experience (anecdotal lol).

Bail, bail.

Just sayin....

You might be laughing, but church is actually a damn good place to meet really nice people.
Though american churches tend to be very zealous.
