For some reason my computer is detecting a TV monitor where there is none, and setting to default as using the TV as the only monitor.
I can't boot it up to change this setting because I can't see the desktop...there's no monitor. I'm typing this on my old computer.
Another problem I'm having is that the whole screen whenever I watch a movie or run a game is checkerboarded with green flashing artifacts.

Whenever I would mistakenly set my computer to boot up on the tv out when I didn't want to, what I would do is get another computer/laptop running the same OS, and then find out the keyboard combination to change it back to monitor, and press those keys on the TVcomputer, which would then turn the screen back on. Hooray!
