Parent's comp connects well to wireless router, but can't access internetSOLVED
This seemed to have happened after installing Zone Alarm Security Suite (legit) on the comp. After installing it, I could connect to the internet just fine on that comp, and Zone Alarm could update its anti-virus and anti-spyware definitions and stuff. I scanned and cleared out a bunch of viruses and spyware using Zone Alarm, AdAware, and Spybot.
So now suddenly I can't access the internet on that comp using Firefox or Internet Explorer or anything. Zone Alarm can't access the net to update stuff, either. I permitted Firefox for everything on Zone Alarm... and also, in the network connection settings in Windows's Control Panel, the firewall protection is turned off.
The little thing in the system tray says that the wireless connection to the router is "Very Good," though.
My first reaction is that Winsock has possibly become corrupted. This can happen in the process of clearing out some viruses/spyware. Have a look at this MS support page and see if it applies: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/811259
