Well, infamous illegal music downloading site OiNK has been finally brought to it's knees by an alliance between the world's finest: the IFPI, BPI, Cleveland Police, and the Fiscal Investigation Unit of the Dutch Police.
So, I know it's verboten to talk about such things, which is why this thread isn't about illegal music distribution, but about the consequences of it, and how they are really disproportionate. Anyone caught with a full "stolen" record is likely to face not only prison time, but several thousands of dollars in fines. Is the RIAA even really helping anything? Is music pirating a victimless crime? I for one think that online music distribution is the wave of the future, and that record companies are greedy bastards. I'm sure they can take a few hits when it comes ot this type of thing, especially considering concert ticket sales and the fact that if a cd is really good, most people will buy it ANYWAY. Needless to say, my mother is terrified and is sending me to live with her brother and his wife in southern california.
I joined but don't think I ever downloaded anything.
The news reports all say they are going to go after users. Yeah good luck going at 10,000 people, all that man power and research would cost more than the albums they stole.
Also: I have taken a few things from time to time from places involving stuff. But if its something I really like, I buy it, otherwise I never use it again. The only exception being when no good alternative exists. I hate having to pay $15 for a CD just for one song and never caring about the others, and eventually losing the CD. But I also don't like DRM music because its a pain in the ass to keep track of.

Legitimate downloading for life, fools.

you are really Kusu

I'm inclined to agree. It's not worth the risk when you can just buy the download (drm free no less) through amazon for less than the cost of lunch.
even one of the people involved in the arrest was claiming that
how do you know this isn't kusu's sexy girlfriend
okay well there are clues
mostly the clues are that kusu sucks
yea i dont quite understand this
but porn should be free
there is no one to be trying to prosecute porn
Absolutely right.
Between redtube and youporn I haven't had to actually download any porno in months.
I recommend giving them a shot.

Part of me suspects that they're all run by one company that's just making bank on all the ads served.

shouldn't that have been hint enough that they were in deep shit?
or was that unrelated...it may have been unrelated
it seems unrelated but who knows
i don't really see why they'd mess with the domain months before they were going to shut it down anyways
