Quick background - The 21 year old manager of a Gamestop in Marietta, GA (part of the metro Atlanta area) was murdered during a robbery on Sunday. The robber tied the guy up and duct taped his mouth. The victim suffocated.
The police have arrested someone and it sounds like he'll be charged shortly.
A suspect had been sought since the Sunday robbery at a GameStop store in which 21-year-old Matthew Cherry died. An autopsy found that Cherry died from suffocation after having his hands tied behind his back and duct tape put over his nose and mouth.
That doesn't sound like murder to me, do you mean manslaughter?
Um, no, it's murder, either through the felony murder statute, or the simple fact that a reasonable person would understand that ducttaping a person's nose and mouth shut will kill them.
He may be charged with murder because it happened while he was committing another felony.

Yeah, it sounds like the death was accidental, though it was caused by the guy robbing the store. He might get charged with murder and have to plea it down to manslaughter (possibly unsuccessfully) though because of the circumstances. This is an instance of stupid criminals hurting people through their stupidity.
Something that really surprised me in the original thread were the number of incidents related by Gamestop employees of robberies/theft outside of employee theft. I just never imagined that working at Gamestop could be a dangerous thing.

I dare you to think of another speciality retail establishment that carries such high value, easily resalable items with minimal security.
This is the second gamestop manager who has died in the past year during a robbery.

I really can't, except for some of those small used car lots that sell luxury cars. But you can only steal one car at a time and they don't have much cash on hand.

Yeah...the term "perfect storm" comes to mind.
What makes it worse is that EBGameStop refuses to put in some prudent security measures, like never letting a manager work alone. IIRC, some managers have even stated that they put in dummy cameras because they're too cheap to put in real ones in some stores.

This is correct both of the stores I worked at had dummy cameras.
Gamestop really don't give a shit if you get robbed either. Case and point is both times I was robbed I had to call the DM. Two differnt times, two different DMs and I had to have this same converstaion.
DM: start counting that inventory right now I want to know how much money they got and how much product they stole.
Me: Gee thanks for asking if I'm ok. Sorry I'm pretty shaken up right now so I'm going home
DM: "You will count that inventory right now or you're fired"
Me: "I just had a gun shoved in my face and i could have been shot and killed! Do you even care about that? I'm waiting for the cops to show up, giving my statement and i'm going home. The store is closed for the night and the stuff can be counted tommorrow morning."
DM: "umm.... ok yea go get some rest we'll deal with it in the morning."
I don't think that the guys who run gamestop are even human anymore.

That's not a murder 1, but it's a murder.

Indeed.
I guess i'm forced to become a libratorr, after all. I never realised how vulnerable those stores are.

There are places where you'd be killed merely on the possibility that you might have a few dollars.
It's not just Gamestop, if that's any consolation. It's one of the worst aspects of our (mostly) successful, capitalist economy/society.
I think that fact more makes those places scarier than it makes places where they'll kill for a couple hundred bucks less scary.
