Firefox Crashes 2-4 Times A Day

I've been using Firefox since forever it seems and I've never had any problems with it until lately. It routinely crashes at least 2 or 3 times a day regardless of what site's I view. I recently reformatted and it did this before the format as well, so it's not a virus or settings or anything. I'm using XP Pro with all the SP updates. No other problems with other programs. Just Firefox.

Has Firefox just become too bloated and "commercial" with its surge in popularity? I barely have any add-ons or extensions, so it's not anything like that either. Only a couple tabs at a time. Should I just try to find an older 1.x version or is there somethign i'm missing with this new 2.x versions that's causing my crashes?

edit: Oh, and any suggestions for a new browser? Just lost a bunch of blog data that pissed me off for the last time and I'm willing to switch if nothing can be done about these crashes.

When Firefox started doing the whole "lol let's crash once or twice a month" thing I said "whatever" and switched to Opera. I like it a lot since it's faster and has everything I needed a Add-On/Extension for in Firefox, except it's all built in and a lot less bloated. It also never crashes on me. So I'd suggest trying Opera, or at least uninstalling all your extensions to see if one of them is responsible.

Try disabling all addons and see how it runs.

Also, revert back to the default theme if you're using a custom one. A poorly designed theme can crash FF just as much as a poorly written addon.

Finally, what sites are you visiting when FF crashes. It could be site-related as well.

No custom themes. Only addons are Adblock Plus and Stumble Upon and the sites it crashes on are random. i've had it happen on Gmail, Google, Penny Arcade and everything in between. I'll try disabling the add-ons for a few days, see if that helps. If not I'll probalby have to just try Opera or something.

To tell you the truth, I was in your same exact situation (except I lost a different kind of data). Anyway, I switched to Safari, and I couldn't be happier. It is faster, and never crashes.

    I strongly reccomend Safari.
