TORIBAAAASH (3.00 released, IT'S FREE!)

Download Toribash Here

What is Toribash?

I'll explain it with pictures:

toribashxg8.jpg
toribash2ua4.jpg

Confused? Fine, i'll explain a bit more.

Toribash is, at it's core, a fighting game. What makes it unique is that you move the joints of characters, contracting and extending them to swing and attack. By doing so you can kick, punch, or rip off your or your opponents head.

It also has a huge amount of mods, from Lightsabers to Knives, i'm sure one of them will be to your fancy. Before 3.00, this game costed about 20 bucks to play.

Now, it's free. 3.00 is stronger, faster, better than the previous versions all for no cost!

So get to playing, you've got some heads to smash.

Probably the most complicated game I've ever played. I remember spending almost a whole day trying to figure out how to jump.. Then I go do some multiplayer and have someone dive over me and rip off my head with his thighs as he passes over me. Getting it again now.

My favorite was beating someone to death with their own body parts. That and ripping off both of the opponents arms at once with a triumphent look.

It's even better to rip off you're own body parts, throw them at someone, then beat them to death with your detached limbs.

This game is crazy hard to get the hang of, but good god is the multiplayer fun.

Downloaded and will probably spend all afternoon playing.

Then its always embarrasing when you detach your own head. Dont forget about your detached arms attached to the other person and you flail them to get more damage on them.

In the original, there were always a couple 'main' starting moves that people would use. It was usually something like 'throw both hands forward while pushing back to avoid their hands' or something. And my greatest enjoyment came from doing something totally different, like 'jump straight up and torque your body to do a pinwheel then grab their arms'. It didn't always work, but it led to some really cool replays, win or lose.

It's a shame you can't really have the dudes textured properly. As when two fighters get into a horrible "hug fight" ripping eachother apart, it becomes very difficult to see what's even happening.

But the squares/spheres are needed to easily click the joints.

Excellent game, but as said above, your first couple of hours with this are going to be mind numbingly frustrating.

I always thought a Toribash type game but with weapons would be awesome (say, samurai swords). It wouldn't be as bloody, but the parrying would be cool and victories would be pretty sweet to watch, I wager.

Well the controls are super easy, you'll get those in like 5 minutes. Learning how the momentum and joints work takes maybe half an hour. Learning how to put it all together and do totally badass stuff - that's what takes forever.

Well, there's a tutorial and stuff in there, but the game itself still takes a while to really get the hang of. As far as I can tell, the game is pretty much the same as it's always been, except now all the stuff is available to free users.

Speaking of which, why'd they make it freeware, anyway? If nothing else, it really makes me glad I resisted the temptation a while back to register it.

Anyone who says otherwise is just silly. You had to pay to basically get "Premium" mode (hosting games and all that), but the game was fully functional without paying.

Yeah, but now demo users can go into every room, not just demo rooms, and use mods..the only things they cant do as far as i can see is host, and use their own names..which kinda sucks..i'm playerID2361 right now =/

Indeed. Although there was a lot of stuff you couldn't do in the "demo" version, such as tweak the match settings, play on non-demo servers, play mods in single player, save replays, etc.

The new version includes all of that, as far as I can tell, which is amazing. I'm having the same problem as taliosfalcon with the game crashing on the server select screen, though.

It seems to be working better now. At least for me. Is there a way to direct connect if you still can't work the server list?

And Zombie, once you start thinking in terms of the game (the big side is the side that the parts will move to) it gets a lot easier.

I've found that trying to do something in particular (head decap, kick, punch) really only works when you're practicing against the dummy. In a multi-player game, you're really pretty much adapting to the new situation after every turn. Instead, just play around and get a feel for what the different joints do as far as movement. It takes a LOT of getting used to.

The server browser seems to be working now, and I've been enjoying having more selection as far as servers go. Just played a few rounds on one where you were fighting on this big platform sitting on this tiny little pillar. The fun part was that the platform wasn't attached to the pillar, so you could tip it over. Ended up saving a few good replays where I managed to grab the platform with one hand, grab the other guy with the other, then roll the whole thing over so he ended up hitting the ground first.

Really going to enjoy finally being able to save replays :).
