Help finding movies

This is a cartoon movie from my childhood [late 80s, early 90s] I have had no luck on google. All I remember is:

- Woodland critters that wear clothes and talk
- poison from crashed truck poisons most of the adults
- wondrous journey ensues
- some of the parents die

and a disney movie that was live action and has some weird intro. I think it was a glowing green computer simulation and space?

Some of my friends and I are gathering old movies meant for kids, but are morbid and weird by today's standards for a movie weekend after Halloween. Suggestions welcome! So far, we have the "Land Before Time", "the Neverending Story", "the Dark Crystal" and some spanish ones.

Thanks PAForums!

It wasn't tron, I have seen that, lol. I want to say the main character's name is Cygnus? It's one of those things, the more I think about it the less I remember.
Ferngully is a great movie, but not the one I am thinking of. it's older than that.

The Disney movie had to be The Black Hole.

For the other one try the movie search forum on this board, they're pretty amazing at finding movie names for people.

live action disney movies that fit that description (from wikipedia)

    The Computer Wore Tennis Shoes

    Flight of the Navigator

Also, while doing the wiki thing... I noticed the mighty ducks.. you should add that to your list.

    For the animated movie.

Was the animated movie "The Secret of NIMH?" Some experiments on rats makes them super smart.

super-love this movie and know it by heart. defintely not it. They are never actually poisoned, the exterminator is called but they leave before he ever gets there.

edit: MarvellousM I think that's It! The black hole! Thanks!

    It's a non-genetic-manipulated talking animal movie.

Aha. Applying my non-insubstantial Google-fu to your situation reveals that your mystery animated movie is likely Once Upon a Forest. Never seen it myself but the plot elements you describe are also described there and the timeline fits.
