Uncharted: Drake's Fortune is a third-person action/shooter developed by Naughty Dog* for the PS3. Drawing from pulp adventures like the Indiana Jones series, it follows Nathan Drake and his partner Elena Fisher as they search for the 400 year old treasure of scurvy sea-dog Francis Drake. Spanning such diverse locales as Incan ruins in a South American jungle and Spanish ruins in a Caribbean jungle, the game pits the hapless adventurers against pirates, mercenaries and a vast swathe of exploding barrels.
Featuring ACME(tm) Whizbang Graphics, some kind of dynamic lighting and no loading times whatsoever**, perhaps the most striking technical feat of this title is the animation. Not happy with merely crafting thousands of specific gestures, Drake's Fortune uses an animation layering system which means Nathan's movements will be generated on the fly as an amalgalm of individual actions - a quick shoulder flinch as a bullet flies by, a shotgun-pump and a scream of "
Shiver me timbers!" all at once.
With all the production sheen of an episode of Survivor, Uncharted will feature over ten hours of gripping gameplay and guarunteed replay value, with 60 hidden treasures to find, a not-at-all achievement inspired medal system, and unlockable game modes. Want to live it out with that pulp feel of an old adventure novel? Just turn on sepia mode and be careful not to tear the pages. Want to feel like your vast PS3 investment was worthwhile? Turn on next-gen mode and bask in the saturated colours and extra helping of light-bloom.
So why are you looking at these crappy screenshots I picked at random? Check out
the brand new trailer at the Playstation Blog for one of those shiver up your spine, oh-my-god-so-excited moments that usually only happens when the score rises up in your favourite movie. It's a really good trailer. Or you can check out the
Gamers' day trailer here, or youtube up some
gameplay videos if you like ruining all the fun by seeing the game before you even play it you big ruiner.
Is anyone else really excited? Watch the new trailer. It pushed all my buttons. The game will be released on the 19th of November in the United States.

the real joke is "dude raider", duh, get with the memes
Honestly, I read the preview for this in the latest issue of Game Informer and the word "potential" came up so much that a red flag went up in my head like crazy. I may neglect getting another of the many November releases for this, though, if reviews are good.
Also, I vote for Larry Croft
Also, Naughty Dog is awesome.
one's a name the other is a colon subtitle
plus
larry croft: dude raider sounds like pretty much the best gay porn we'll never see
Larry Croft is a man's man.
I think you're on to something here...
Anyway, that melee combat looks interesting.
according to this ign preview, yes
And Dashui, my plan is to play it frantically and try to beat it over the course of one day so I can then play Mass Effect.
But yes, I agree, bad timing. That's kind of how this year is though. It's both good and bad.

Let me tell you about Demon's Souls....
We'll see, I guess.
The new trailer looks great, but I don't love the music.
Ah, missed that. I edited my post.

We are doin Assasin's Creed Next, a much shorter 30 second trailer...I'll let you all know when we post.
Oh, on a side note, the Penny Arcade Comic makes my day at work!
uh... so has every other person ever? what the fuck is special about some dude in a game wearing chucks. those shoes are the most uncomfortable footwear for a jungle adventure ever.
This is exactly what I am thinking. The last thing I would wear if I was running around jungles raiding tombs and shooting people is chuck taylors.

edit: oh, and apparently there's a new ARG based on the game's plot that's just kicked off. it involves mysterious craigslist posts and the lure of treasure. should be fun, but just don't wear your converse or you might slip and fall on a polygon
They've said that the average game length will be around 12 hours, with 10 hours being a pretty quick play through. So yeah, sounds about the right length.
Also, they've confirmed that the Uncharted demo will be going up on the US PS Store next week. I can't freaking wait.

Ahh come on... whats wrong with stranglehold, its worth at least a rental :P
I kind of know how you feel, I'm the same way with comics. I won't dare read previews for anything I know I'll pick up since it just ends with me skipping through the first pages when I actually pick it up. But with games, I dunno, I don't really mind playing demos since they're usually much smaller slices of the overall product.
Plus, whenever I start playing a new game I have a good 15 minutes (sometimes more) where I'm learning the game and am just playing like absolute crap. Whereas, if I play a demo, I can jump right in and kick ass from the get-go.
I'm going to download the demo, even though I know it may keep me from playing FFT for a couple of days...
Not really. I mean, sure it's got a similar camera angle when shooting (care of RE4) and the shooting does feature cover (though I doubt it'll be as important as it is in Gears) but there looks to be a lot more game than that, what with the platforming and puzzle solving aspects.
If you have to, you could probably think of it as taking a bit from Gears and another bit from Ico/PoP and mixing them together.
Once you get used to them they are great shoes guys.
Great shoes.
I got mine for $15 though, so hat's pretty rockin.
They were fakes.

The gameplay feels like a combination of the newest Tomb Raider games and Gears of War, which isn't a bad thing at all. The platforming is very responsive, and Drake can grab a whole bunch of ledges, not just ones that are "special" like in other games. The animations are smooth, and the cover system has a button to stick to cover like in Gears. It feels more solid here than in any other game I've seen use this system, save perhaps Rainbow Six Vegas.
The demo is worth playing a few times as I noticed the AI were in different places and reacted differently each time. The demo contains a cutscene, some platforming bits, and then a few shootouts. Then it just randomly ends which was a little disappointing. No cutscene, no warning, just fade back to title screen.
Overall, it's a whole lot of fun, and something the PS3 really needs right now. There are also no load times whatsoever, even if you skip the opening cutscene, which is phenomenal. I'm hoping that I can power through it in the day before Mass Effect hits , but if not I'll definitely be revisiting it.
