Joss Whedon, the creator of acclaimed cult favorites “Buffy the Vampire Slayer,†“Angel†and “Firefly,†is returning to Fox and reuniting with “Buffy†regular Eliza Dushku for a new action-drama called “Dollhouse.â€
Fox has given a seven-episode commitment to the 20th Century Fox Television project for a planned debut next year.
“It deals with our darkest impulses and our best ones,†Whedon says. “It deals with all the things I like to deal with—strength, weakness, power and corruption.â€
“Dollhouse†stars Dushku as Echo, one of a group of secret agents living in a futuristic dorm. Each has the ability to be imprinted with custom personalities and abilities for special assignments. When they return, their newly acquired memories are wiped. The show follows Echo as she takes on a variety of assignments—some romantic, some adventurous, some uplifting, some illegal—and gains awareness of her role and confinement.
I'm really looking forward to this, even though I know Fox will kill it within two seasons.
He's already writing Buffy season 8, Runaways, and is supposed to be starting an Angel season six series soon.
Joss' run on Runaways is just about over and his final script is probably already submitted. Joss wrote the first 5 issues of Buffy season 8 and won't be penning another issue for awhile (although he is still involved). And I don't think he's writing any of the Angel issues.

I know he was intimately involved in the process, but he only wrote a fraction of the Buffy episodes and directed even less. I think even Marti Noxon directed/wrote more than he did. I'm not saying Buffy wasn't his thing, just that a series creator is rarely so locked down that he can't do that and write a few comics on the side.
Out of the seven episodes I bet he writes and directs about four.

I have liked everything Whedon has created so far...
(and I kind of hate myself for it....)

Joss always wrote the big ones though, and his involvement shrank in the later seasons mainly because of the amount of stuff on his plate. Noxon was actually credited as showrunner during season 6 because Joss was so busy getting Firefly started.

I loved the way a gun completely breaks the shows whole internal logic.
Its like she can fight a giant worm monster, drown and survive, fight like 8 vampires at once, use badass magic to counter a minigun, generally kill anything and then its all like "ZOMG JAMIES GOT A GUN"
I actually preferred six to seven, or at least the latter half of seven. Too much of seven's latter half was "Buffy gives depressing speech, two dozen extras do fight scene, First taunts Buffy, minor event happens, episode ends." I think Marti admitted that six was a lot to do with her working her own crap out through the show, which often didn't work. On the other hand, musical episode!

You know what? Nanowrimo's cancelled on account of the world is stupid.
The bit where Willow crashes the car because of lolmagidrugs was cringe-inducing.
I mean, WE GET IT ALREADY. They are supposed to be in goddamn university, so why does this scene make me think "naughty teens first night on the booze stealing moms car".
If it's like Buffy or Angel, then fuck that noise.
I still have no idea why he'd go back to Fox though.
Angel was, throughout, miles better than Buffy most of the time. I mean... everyone was at least marginally a grownup, compared to Buffy, where everyone was trying to grow up, and failing miserably. I mean, WeddingXander? Really? Fuck you.
Firefly was, of course, better than both, and Serenity proved that beyond a shadow of a doubt. Oh, how I hate Fox.
I disagree that Angel on a whole was better than Buffy.
But again, yes, season 6 fucked Xander and Willow's characters up pretty good.
Bored now.
Anyway, I'm going to throw my weight on the pile of Buffy having the best individual episodes ("Hush," "Once More With Feeling," the memory loss one(s?), etc), but that Angel had better consistancy and was overall more introspective and interesting. The last seasons of Buffy inevitably got a little too deep into navel-grazing, and Angel ended before that could start happening.
I think I prefer Buffy overall of the three, partially because I like the usual Jossian anachronism (blond "victim" killing vampires,) over that cowboys in space or awkward vampire detection ones. Also, I like the more established seasonal story arcs Buffy had.

If Firefly had gone on for longer i think it would have surpsassed Buffy in quality. And i haven't finished Angel yet (in S4 right now) so i can't really comment on that yet. So far so good though.

Oh man, I will always respect the continuity in season 4 of angel.
Without spoiling anything, that whole season is supposed to take place over the time frame of about 2 and half months.
Although this damages its repeat viewing value, the plot acceleration is palpable.
Season six largely sucked, but it also had some of the best episodes. Once More With Feeling and the one where Buffy thinks she's in an asylum are two of my favorites.
It's like all of the awesome for that season got sucked into a small handful of episodes, and there was no awesome left for the rest.
Also: Yay, another Whedon series. I desperately hope that it survives longer than Firefly. I just rewatched that again, and after the last episode there was this cold emptiness in my soul.

Aired out of order.
I'm intrigued, but I'm a whore for Joss Whedon.
P.S I love you Joss.
That's a very generous estimate.
"...within..."

"They're all dead"

I hear it turned out that the dragon was a good guy.

Oh.
Well then, yay Dollhouse.

So that's the fucker to blame.
She's a women.
And yes.
Having recently rewatched season six, I had forgotten how truly fucking horrendous it was.

Because that was awful.
Although I liked everything after Tara got shot.
And the gambling with kittens.

Definately agree with this. The episode right after where they all lost their memories was a pretty great one also.
