In the next several weeks I am going to be joining the millions of people that have already jumped into the world of next-generation (or is it current generation) gaming. I'm planning on picking up the 360 Holiday Bundle, but with that, I'm going to be adding a couple of other games to the library.
I'm new to the whole 360/Live world, but the whole thought of Achievements seem to really do it for me. It seems as if they add a ton of replay value to every single game you buy. Sure, some are a little out of the ordinary (Guitar Hero 3), but alot of them seem to really make you squeeze every bit out of title.
With that, I'm asking the PA community, what games do you think had the best achievements? Achievements that are worthy of purchasing a title, and actually sitting down and trying to unlock them all.
I declined a boss battle in Guitar Hero 3 and received an achievement for being a pussy, complete with an icon of a scared kitty cat on a pink guitar pick. And 0 gamer points. Nice.

DOA4 has an achievement like that for losing online 5 times in a row.
A guy I work with has one achievement in GH2 which is for failing a song on easy.
Do any of you guys have any games with 100% Achievements? I don't think I've ever seen that.
Kameo gives you an achievement for collecting all the health upgrades and stuff, and Hitman Blood money gives you one for having all the weapons unlocked.
Gears of War's 'My love for you is like a truck' achivement for killing a berserker is awesome if you get the reference.
The metalhead's song in Clerks
I'm probably in the minority here, but attempting and accomplishing the 50 survivors achivement on Dead Rising (at level 50 of course) was the most fun I'v ever had on my 360.
You get an achivment for just going to the unlock shop and meeting John Woo in Stranglehold, plus the having 'You caused $75,000,000 worh of damage' achivement pop up is just glorious.
Oh, and best: Dead Rising, without a doubt. All great achievements, that encourage exactly what achievements are supposed to: The basic question of oneupmanship: "ok, so you beat our game... but can you do this?"
Can you:
- Kill 10,000 zombies in one playthrough?
- Kill 50,000 zombies in one playthrough?
- Rescue every single survivor?
- Find every single type of food?
- Take a picture so good it's worth 3,000pp?
- Photograph 10 psychopaths?
- Jump a motorcycle 10 meters?
- Defeat at least 1,000 zombies barehanded? ( I literally ended up going through almost an entire playthrough of the game, killing zombies with just my bare hands. it was awesome)
All really, really good achievements.
Crackdown is also excellent, there are achievements for maxing out levels, climing the highest tower in the city, keeping a vehicle in air for longer than 7 seconds, doing a double front flip during a jump in a vehicle, collecting all the orbs (they're like coins..) scattered throughout the city, and all kinds of achievements for throwing things certain distances. Really, really fun.

Plus you actually get ingame rewards for doing them too, although instead of a police hat, I would of rather had a shirt for Frank that said 'I saved 50 survivors and all I got was this lousy T-Shirt'
'drive a Delorean at 88mph or more, at night, when lighting strikes'.
this one isn't weird, this is awesome.
awesome, yes. but they don't actually tell you that that is the requirement. i had to look that one up online. to know it otherwise, you'd have to be a super-mega-hyper-geek(the name of the achievement is, i think, the licence plate number of the Delorean from the BTTF movies).
but still, between that, and finishing 2nd in a race while a certain song plays, they've worked hard to make sure that we work hard for our achievements.

I'm pretty sure that most people would understand that achievement.

I wonder if Wraith gets the joke.
All Achievements are awesome. It is only some people insistence in achieving them that I find questionable.
yes, i get the joke, but that doesn't make it any less strange. considering the selection of cars i've seen in my limited play of PGR4, the Delorean really does stands out from the crowd. i really wouldn't be surprised to find that the only reason its there is so that they could included that achievement.
Worst: Ghost Recon - Be the #1 player in the entire world in ranked play.
WTF. Yes, that is seriously a real achievement.
edit: Fatty, DoA4 has an achievement like that too, if you lose several matches of online play in a row, apparently. I think it's awesome.
How....how many points is that worth?
At the same time, isn't it great that whoever actually makes it gets some kind of official recognition of his awesomeness?
that was my take on it. that's kickass. it never goes away even if the player stops playing the game and drops in rank.
Ok, but that's something that should be done through some in-game system, a la Crackdown's subachievements or Halo's awards system. NOT through the official Achievements system -- it just makes it practically impossible for everyone else to get 1000 points.

it's not their fault some people get obsessive compulsive over achievements, though. If I ever hit rank 1 in a game I'd want anyone browsing my xbl profile to be able to see it.
edit - I'm not saying wanting 100% achievements is bad, just that it won't always be realistically achievable to a great number of people, and I think that's okay. then if you get it, it's like you achieved something.

ok, so by booting up you 360, popping in your brand new copy of PGR4, and bringing up the list of achievements, just before you enter into the game, you'd know exactly what was required from the the achievement listed simply as '3CZV657'?
i hate to hijack the thread with my apparent ignorance, but i can't imagine that the achievement in question is that self explanatory.
they've went out of their way to make them challenging, and yes to make them fun. but immediately apparent? well, i'd argue that that's a different matter.

well, it's a pretty unique car, and it's famous because of the Back To The Future series. it was in Gran Turismo 4 as well.
have only played the demo, and already have more than enough games to keep me busy for the time being(along with planning on buying Mass Effect, Assassin's Creed, and most likely finally caving and buying a Wii before the end of the year).

Oblivion has good ones too

Oblivion is super easy to get 100% on.

'drive a Delorean at 88mph or more, at night, when lighting strikes'.
'place 1st and 2nd, in split-screen, against at least one AI racer, driving in reverse'.
and those are just two examples. there are some normals ones in the bunch too, but they certainly went out of their way to make them a challenge.
Plus you actually get ingame rewards for doing them too, although instead of a police hat, I would of rather had a shirt for Frank that said 'I saved 50 survivors and all I got was this lousy T-Shirt'
Believe it or not, 3 people have already done it.
Which is scary when you think of the amount of time it must have taken.

Seriously though, how many points is it worth?
it's perfect.

That's terrifying. I thought I wanted to know if anyone had done it or not. I think I could have been happy with my illusion that it hadn't been done.
29. Buy an Achievement
Buy the K1,000,000 gamer picture to earn this Achievement.
49. Numero Uno
Reach Rank Number One on the Single Player Career Drivers' Leaderboard.

the Little Rocket Man achievement is pretty great in Half Life 2 EP2

over time, though, these two aren't that unreasonable. but they do seem to taunt us with some, though. the 'strike a pose' achievement for example:
Get two bikes facing each other, 15 metres apart, with each performing an impressive endo.
i haven't even figured out how to do an endo yet!!!
i'm not complaining about these achievements by the way. just holding them up as more imaginitive examples.

Forward plus brake.
Pretty easy.
