Toshiba Laptop HD...

My roommate has a Toshiba laptop hard drive with a fried laptop, and he wants to get the information off the drive. Unfortunately, it uses what appears to be some sort of proprietary connection (looks like an IDE connection, but it must carry power, and is spaced slightly differently from a standard IDE). What would be the best, cheapest way to go about getting the information off?

You can get 2.5" to 3.5" IDE connection adapters for cheap from any decent computer shop (2.5" inch drives have the pins packed closer together, and also carry power).

You can also get external HD enclosures that take standard laptop hard drives.

If memory serves, though, there's at least a couple of Toshiba laptop models that use drives with a weird connector. Tecra and Protege, I think. There are adapters for those, but I don't think they're cheap.

Yeah than, 2.5" drives have their own standardized IDE connection. You should be able to pick up an adapter that will allow you to hook it into a PC for less than $10.

Unless it's some completely unique connector but that seems kind of unlikely

    Ahhh, 2.5" IDE. Thanks.

Mostly, I just needed to know what type of cable it used. Thread over.
