Waggle doesn't really impress me much. It's by no means bad, but I don't think it's better than pressing a button. This shit right here is awesome (Dome 3 spoiler)
Where you jump for the key off the ledge and have to click the star-grab-thingy quickly. I hope they do a lot more shit like this.

nothing about the controls are OMFG AMAZING. but they are so gosh darn functional, and that's all that really matters. they work. some would even say they work well. everything beyond that depends on the world that mario is in.

FUCK YES! I just got off the phone with the Toys R Us on Dodge in Omaha (in case anyone else cares about this location) and they now have some more copies in and are holding one for me.

AND THERE WAS MUCH REJOICING! yay!

Well, it's certainly better than 64, and most of the rest willhave been marked down for being ports.
In fact, it's probably better than any of them bar maybe Yoshi's Island.

Hmm, in that case I should look to play Yoshi's Island at some point.

So, you lose your extra lives when you save and quit?

I had 50 last night, and now I have 9 (got some from Mailtoad, so I started with 4) o_O

Not that they're not easy to accumulate, but...why?

You always have in the 3D Mario games. Lives are a little pointless in general, it's very difficult to get a game over in SMG.

If you didn't lose them you'd always be stuck in the high 90s. This way, they can use 1-Ups instead of some pickup with real value like blue coins, without us feeling gipped.

I wouldn't say difficult. There are a few stars here and there that will give you a run for your money. Should you be trying them right at the start of a fresh game, you could burn through all 4 lives just like that.

I've already had one game-over through going in without enough lives.

This game is an absolute delight to play.

Wish it was HD but it still looks gorgeous and Mario's silly little animations keep making me laugh. Especially walking around with his hat pulled down, his long jump and sweating as he carries things.

I'm only 30 stars in but I can't get enough of this game.

Anyhow, gushing over and done with. Carry on!

I was just about to post about this. Easily my favorite part of the game right there.

In fact, both of my favorite stars in this game involve Ice Mario.
Wall-jumping off waterfalls and ice skating on motherfucking lava for the win.

Edit: I would also like to point out that I caught the little penguin without learning how to ice skate. Epic long jumps over the sides of the ice donut and I caught him. I felt so righteous in my victory I totally missed the point of the exercise :P

Then am I to assume that there are hidden stars in the galaxies that don't have the crown? I thought I got all of the stars.

At the start of the boss level for the 2nd dome (I know that's awkwardly worded but I'm trying not to spoil here) I looked at what was ahead when Mario flies in and actually laughed out loud and said "awesome!"

I'm alone in an empty apartment ... so it's not like I was telling anybody else that it's awesome, I just couldn't help myself. I think the last time I was that impressed with a level design it was the final level of Mario 64. I love these long abstract gauntlet levels.

I have yet to turn off my Wii and lose lives, but overall the mechanics they have in place to ensure that enough things occur to not permanently lose lives is impressve....

The 50 Star bits rule, and often times the 1-ups will be in areas where you're going to most likely die a few times trying to accomplish your task, and you simply need to grab that 1-up before you die each time...

For instance, on Rocky Road, it was in one of the tougher segments of the level in a very convient location that took minimal effort to get.... The 1-ups are convenient strewn about in a manner condusive to allowing the player to get as many tries to accomplish a task as need be, player just needs to be able to get it....

Not sure how far into the game this question is, but...
How do I get Luigi to get off his lazy ass and go searching for stars? I've found the first one, but now he's just hanging out near the ship. Is there an event that triggers him?

He'll just go off on his own occasionally. But just so you know, he only does it for like 3 stars or so, then he's done.

No, there are at most 2 comet challenges per galaxy, and one of those is only unlockable after the game has been beaten.

I started with ten lives and ended with 99( that being the maximum you can have btw)

I got 3 1 ups each time before I died at the loop.

As delayed as this game was, I'm suprised Luigi only gives you three stars. It'd be awesome if he started hanging out in every single three-star level after you first rescued him, and just gave you a star without ending the level.

88 stars in. I really like it. This is the only game I can think of besides maybe resident evil 4 where I actually felt relieved when I got through a level. It's a different type of intensity but it's still awesome. How many are refusing to fight the final boss until you get all 120 stars?
