Non-lyrical melodic techno/dance music

Hey everybody, for a while now I've been searching for some good dance/techno music that's melody driven, but the problem is every song I can find with a good melody has lyrics, and every song I find without lyrics is just trance and endlessly repeats the same thing over and over again. I know there's an in between, I've heard stuff like it before, but the problem is without words to search for I can never figure out what group I was listening to.

So I'm not a fan at all of singing in techno, and I don't like trance because it bores the hell out of me; does anybody have recommendations for some high quality music that falls into that category? Melodic techno?
Thanks!

Well you've kinda defined Electronica and you're not going to escape repetition in the music. That's what it's based on: Loops.

Now there are ways to work around it if you're willing to dabble in other genres.

I think what your looking for is something like Electronica/Acid/Jazz/Fusion or post rock.

    Some bands to try are:

    Jaga Jazzist
Cinematic Orchestra (There are song songs with lyrics in them)
    M83
    Layo And Bushwacka
    Meat Beat Manifesto
    Boards Of Canada
    Holy Fuck
    Aphex Twin
    Amon Tobin
    Bonobo
    Royksopp
    DJ Food
Remixes of the Old Sonic Genesis games found on OCRemix
    Thievery Corporation
    Squarepusher
    King Cobb Steelie

And I know most of these bands have vocal tracks, I'm suggesting the instrumentals. I hope you find what you're looking for.

Are you looking for music that's melodic and energetic or melodic and peaceful? If you want the former style, look into progressive house and breakbeat. If you want the latter style, look into ambient.

It's hard to give specific suggestions without having a better idea of what you're looking for. Your best bet may be to visit one of the many online EDM stores, like Beatport and just browse by genre.

Another option would be to download mixes. I've been enjoying the sets on Hybridized for a long time; check out the forums there for more mixes too.

That is Gouryella (A duo between Ferry Corsten and Tiesto, two big names in progressive trance) and probably what I would consider the best non-vocal progressive trance out there. Which I THINK is what you are looking for.

Except for the whole part where you said techno had lyrics and was less repetitive than trance. And made my brain explode.

Listen to the first song listed..."Scorpion Frog" by Infected Mushroom.

    Also check out http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5VOVK0KiQ6c

At about 3:20 in the video is where it starts getting "techno-y".

I'm not sure if that is exactly what you're looking for but I'd suggest you give those a look.

What you're looking for is covered by the label "progressive house" and if you go to beatport.com and look for stuff in that subgenre you'll find ample artists and songs to satisfy you. But here's some older stuff that you won't find on beatport but are major progenitors of the genre:

    Orbital - Diversions
    Orbital - In Sides
    BT - ESCM
    BT - Ima
    Robert Miles - Dreamland
William Orbit - Strange Cargo I, II, and III
The Orb - pretty much everything they've ever done ever
