Sorry if there's already a thread about this, but I checked the accumulated knowledge and first page of this forum and found nothing.
Anyway, my boyfriend got me a DS for our anniversary and I am looking for a new game, as I recently received a giftcert for amazon.
So the question is, what games should I get? Right now I have Brain Age 2, Trace Memory, Phoenix Wright 2, and Feel the Magic. I've played Animal Crossing and really liked it, but one of my friends said I could pretty much have his, so I don't need to buy it. I really prefer RPGs and I was looking into finding something kinda cute and mindless to play while I'm home over Christmas.
I don't think I'm really interested in JRPGs...sooooo...help me out!
TL;DR: What DS RPGs (that are kinda cute) do you recommend, PAers?

Just asking since you don't mention it, have you played PW1? If not, play it first.
If you like puzzle games, Puzzle Quest is a fantastic combination of puzzle and RPG elements. It's not exactly cute, but it passes the time like nothing else.
Edit: I have to add to the Zelda: Phantom Hourglass suggestion. I just beat it and it's fantastic.
If you like bejeweled and you like rpgs; you can't go wrong with Puzzle Quest which is an rpg where all battles and crafting are done through bejeweled.
FF3 is cute and reasonably mindless. It's hard, though--very much a game of the old school--so I'm not sure whether it fits the criteria. Chocobo Tales might do it, or, and this is the best option, there is Dragon Quest: Rocket Slime if you want a Zelda-esque action-RPG. And come to think of it, Pokemon is also an RPG of a sort.
All of these are thin on story, but that seems to be a characteristic of DS RPGs in general (which reminds me -- Etrian Odyssey; cute, grindy, very hardcore, almost no story whatsoever). I have some hope for FFXII Revenant Wings, which I think is out soon (?), but eh; who knows. In any event, they're all good.
Advance Wars: Dual Strike, its a turn based strategy game, but it has a small amount of RPG-ish-ness to it, there are lots of characters to choose from, each one with its own strenghts and weakness, you can equip them with different skills(wich you win by leveling up) before battle.
It also features the cutest war machines you've seen.
Castlevania: Portrait of Ruin is great, Advance Wars is great and accessible.
For an RPG that isn't just 100% fighting all the time, I had a lot of fun with "Rune Factory: A Fantasy Harvest Moon". It's half Harvest Moon farming, half fighting, with levelling and all of that shit. You might also want to dip back into the GBA pool and play some Golden Sun or whatever the kids are playing these days. I'm not an RPG guy, but I guess it's good.
Don't forget Hourglass, and Mario and Luigi: Partners in Time is supposed to be fun too.
Obligatory mention of Lunar Knights. It's more RPGish than zelda and while not really cute per se it's got nice anime style 2d graphics.
For puzzley games I love meteos and picross. Nervous brickdown is also a fun time waster and the mother of all breakout clones. As far as cute games I can think of, Ontamarama and cooking mama 2 are out now. Before OLOL stereotypes, I actually got it and enjoy it a lot. It's got great presentation and is goofy fun, especially when playing with friends. I can't play it for long periods though because it makes me too hungry
Forget RPGs! Everyone needs New Super Mario Brothers. And of course you should get Elite Beat Agents if you like rhythm games or enjoy epic cheese or have a soul, etc.
Brain Age 2 is alright. I actually just traded a friend for it briefly...but I like it because you can play sudoku whenever you want. It's a neat idea, but it's not the most interesting...a bit repetitive.
I am looking into nintendogs, mario&luigi superstar saga, and puzzle quest right now.
super princess peach, new mario bros, phantom hourglass, the pokemans (let me show you them) elite beat agents. cooking mama (seriously) trauma center, the mario rpg games, pheonix wright

My gf really liked FF3 ds for a while. I told her she needed to grind up a lot to kill the bosses easily and she sailed through the game faster and easier than me.

(PSN: Morninglord) (Steam: Morninglord) (WiiU: Morninglord22) I like to record and toss up a lot of random gaming videos here.
Get Nintendogs, because if you don't think it's cute you have no soul. M&L:SS is also a good choice, as is Puzzle Quest. I would say that Mario Kart DS is a good choice if you've ever played a Mario Kart game and enjoyed it. But really everything you should probably get has been mentioned.
And if you happen to somehow stumble on a copy of Electroplankton, get it just because it's completely out of print. Even if you don't like the "game" (it's a funky music program mostly) it would be a wise investment.
If you haven't played Phoenix Wright 1, you should. Justice for All is easily the weakest game in the series.
I second the recommendation for Chocobo Tales. It is adorable and addictive, but easy and short (about 11 hours to beat the story, less if you don't waste time unlocking everything). My boyfriend thinks it's silly, but whatever. :P Combat is card-based, and really easy to pick up and the game can be controlled entirely by stylus.
If you don't like JRPGs, stay the heck away from FF3.
Superstar Saga is amazing, and you should be able to pick it up for the Player's Choice price. Partners in Time (on the DS) is not as good in my opinion. SS is probably my favorite GBA game.
Nintendogs was really adorable and awesome for like the first month, then I stopped playing it as often and when I went back to it my puppies were dirty and starving, so it made me feel terrible.
Pokemon Diamond/Pearl is probably my most-played DS game (nearly 300 hours lol) but I haven't picked it up since the summer. After about 300 pokemon or so in my collection, I became bored of 'Catching them all.'
I really enjoyed Pokemon Ranger, but that is not a popular opinion, so ymmv.
Also, I hate to be stereotypical, but Cooking Mama really is fun. Bright, cute visuals and nifty stylus action. Plus I like to cook so that may be part of it...
Also Mario Kart is pretty much required for DS collections. Unless you don't like kart racers.

IMO, Superstar Saga has flatter gameplay and a better story, while Partners in Time has cooler gameplay and a weaker story. So take that as you will.

Is there a real Harvest Moon DS? I played the shit out of Harvest Moon 64 back in the day, and I would like to do that again on the go. Or should i just stick to Friends of Mineral Town?

There is a real one. Harvest Moon DS.
Harvest Moon DS 2 comes out in like February I think.
Dragon Quest Heroes: Rocket Slime. It's really an action rpg not a jrpg and it delivers the cute. Also, if you liked Trace memory, the check out Hotel Dusk.
I just got a DS Lite for Christmas. I went out and bought Elite Beat Agents (VERY fun...crazy, but fun) and also found a copy of Trauma Center UTK...loving it as well. My next purchase is gonna be New Super Mario Bros.:^:
I'm a guy, but these 3 are definitely great "unisex" games.;-)
* Kirby's Canvas whatever whatever was really fun, though it was at the beginning of the DS lifecycle, so I might have been biased.
* Zelda, Phantom Hourglass. Fun, fun, only a few hang-ups (one-off gimmick 'puzzles')..
* I liked Puzzle Quest, but my boyfriend was really irritated by the stylus controls because you have to be super-precise in selecting the gems. He would have rather played it on Xbox live or PC I think.
* And yeah... guilty pleasure.. Pokemon.... sigh...
* I never got to play Rocket Slime b/c I bought the Japanese version and it wouldn't save my game... that or I just couldn't read the kanji right... but it looked really fun and if you get it I'll be jealous
Seconded. I'm never been this eongrossed in a game since...well, HM 64.
I looked it up on wikipedia. I don't know if I like the fact that I can't raise animals though.
You can raise animals, it's just simplified and streamlined.
Monsters basically replace harvest sprites, your horse, and all the animals.
The are monsterous chickens, crazy death bull cows, adorable sheep things, ridable wolves, etc.
It's pretty well done. The big problem with the game (if you can call it a problem) is that it is too damn easy.

Zelda, Pheonix Wright, Trauma Center, Advance Wars, Nintendogs, Castlevania: PoR... All my votes swing to those. Harvest Moon for the DS I've heard bad things about. The second one coming out may be better.
Edit - RPG wise I only played two for the DS: Etrian Odyssey and Final Fantasy 3. They're both oldschool in that you need to grind a lot. If a 'gal isn't so caught up on having to do that, then those are good.
I also don't know if any of my suggestions are based on what I'd recommend to girls; I'd say all these for guys too.

Amazing game. Adventure game with RPG elements. It's mindless and, hell, it's even a little cute.
Mario & Luigi Superstar Saga for the GBA and M&L Partners in time for the DS.
But either of the DS Castlevania's fit being kind of RPGish.
Edit: And Zelda: Phourglass is great.
on a serious note, go get Zelda. Do it. Do it now.
Get New Super Mario Bros while you're at it.

Nintendogs (I'm totally cereal)
Picross
Prism
Any of the Brain Age thingies
Basically anything that doesn't say "Game over sucka" or "You lose, replay the last 15 minutes again" is good for her.
Oh good, I'm not the only person who hated that game.
EDIT: Super Princess Peach, Kirby: Canvas Curse and Amazing Mirror.

Get Rune Factory. Cute, easy, Not quite JRPG RPG.
Also, if you're musically inclined, Jam Sessions is hella good.
I do realise neither are actually RPGs, but they are great games.
Dragon Quest Heroes: Rocket Slime. It's really an action rpg not a jrpg and it delivers the cute. Also, if you liked Trace memory, the check out Hotel Dusk.
If you dont like them I will personally come to your house and punch you in the overies.
