Anybody ridiculously good at finding ridiculously old movies?

Trying to find a copy of the first Warren Miller movie for my dad for Christmas. It was apparently the first US film he ever saw (he's from Germany), and he's seen every Warren Miller movie every year since.

Name of the movie is "Deep and Light", it came out in 1950.

I've tried the official site, Amazon, ebay, and even some sketchy looking sites, all with no luck. As it is the oldest film I can find is the 1978 release, "Ski A La Carte".

So, anybody know of a site with really obscure movies available?

Imaginary cookie to whoever can find me the oldest Warren Miller film :)

I just Googled it. It looks like it was his first film. If you can, I'd try e-mailing whoever runs his official site. I'm sure they could point you in the right direction.

Yeah, hunting directly for rare movies can be a futile effort. If you can find some sites or forums run by other hardcore fans of his, then you can probably get their advice on how to find the more elusive movies. And also, sometimes they will have insider tips on which version is the best, if there have been different cuts released on vhs, dvd, etc.

It's very possible that all physical copies of it were lost or destroyed in one manner or another prior to archiving.

Look up film archives in your area. There's plenty of places that preserve old movies and extensively study film history. Sadly if it only exists in archives the best you're likely to do is be able to watch it t
